I am also working on an Xbox laptop using one with the new 65nm processor. The motherboard is definitely a lot simpler, quite a bit of parts reduction.

The Apple IIgs I'm looking forward to, as it's one of my favorite old computers. Did you know they actually made Wolfenstien 3D for it? 3D, not the original overhead Apple II version.

If I ever get a PS3, I'm hunting down an old 20gig because it doesn't have that butt-ugly chrome trim. And if I can't find one, I'll get a 60gig. But I will not get an 80gig and I will DEFINITELY never get a 40gig.

The thing about the PS3 that rubbed me the wrong way was that it had all these features that it forced you to buy whether you wanted them or not. At least the 360 had the Core/Arcade option. But now I can't consider buying one because every time I do, I think of all the people being screwed out of their money unnecessarily. And I do want to play Uncharted, I really do! It's just that word "system-seller" that gets to me...

The Core/Arcade consoles are good? Only if you like machines crippled right out the box.......or spending additional insane amounts of money to get it up to Pro/Premium standards. You lose so much without a hard drive and the core couldn't even do game saves.

The launch prices of the PS3 were completely absurd, but the current prices aren't half bad compared with the 360 Pro and Elite. The PS3 is the better buy in terms of hardware value.

It's a much better approach to give me everything for $50/$100 more rather than rape me on accessories later. $99 for a WiFi adapter? $99 for a 20GB drive? $180 for $120GB drive?

Also, the PS3 has an open architecture enough to let you choose what you want to use with it vs. being shafted with proprietary goods.

Remember, though, some people couldn't give two craps about those features. And as for value, paying extra in the long run isn't as bad as you think. A larger purchase is similar to having a smaller one when spread out.

And as for BC, I don't exactly have room for my PS2 in my entertainment center, so I really would prefer BC.

About what features? Using your own external drives, thumb drives, and whatever headsets you want? The ability to swap out the internal hard drive without voiding the warranty? It's a combination of huge savings and getting to use reliable sturdy hardware you'd actually like to use.

That's probably the number one thing dual owners complain about, no freedom on the 360.

I don't think anyone can justify not owning a hard drive.

And as for value, paying extra in the long run isn't as bad as you think. A larger purchase is similar to having a smaller one when spread out.

Buying a core meant spending up to an additional $170 to get it up to Pro standards. I'm not seeing any rational reason for spending an extra $70 later. Especially, if you wanted to save games out of the box you had to buy an outrageous memory card for $50.

The cores and arcades are good for three things: Replacing a dead 360 you voided the warranty on, replacing a 360 banned from Live, or having a backup while your 360 is out for repair.

Doesn't mean you have enough inputs or outlets to have it, though. Plus, since the disc door flips up, it takes even more space. I personally wouldn't care for BC, most of the games I'd want for PS2 I could get for Xbox.

I think the PS3 looks really good if you want a media center sort of thing and a Blu-ray player. For me, the few good games would be icing on the cake. Hopefully Blu-ray will kill HD DVD soon, then a PS3 would be a no-brainer and it'll be easier to convince my parents to get one (as long as it has wireless, I don't care about the rest).

You're forgetting the other people who dont want all the stuff you do. Do you know how many PS3 owners actually use Blu-ray? 20%! Hell, only 40% even know what it is! But everyone is required to buy it anyway. And as for the $170, you're paying extra so you don't have to pay all at once. That's how a mortgage works.

So I should replace my current PS2 with a slimline that has a big flip-up lid that I couldn't put anywhere? It still wouldn't work!
