Though I commend them on the cram job, as well as the eye-catching aesthetics as usual, they're pushing it. Thin and light is great for portability and all, but it doesn't always equal ergonomics. I found that out with the Touch; neat toy, but very uncomfortable to hold without the clear plastic case I put on it. Besides, something that thin conjures up images of cracking plastic. I mean, for the college student (who seems to be Apple's computer market, mind you) to be lugging this around in a bag all day with heavy books and a lot of use, how is such a slim battery life and flimsy design going to help increase market share? And I know you can buy extended batteries and the like, but that kinda defeats the purpose of increased portability, don't ya think?
I know people will buy it, because people are stupid, but this just isn't for me. And like people said before, if you really need something that small, get a Lifebook or an Eee. It's also kinda silly to give the thing desktop replacement power, but then give them only one USB port. The CD/DVD drive I can understand for size-cutting, but then again, since Apple's main marketing feature has always been media management and editing, wouldn't it make sense to simply include a DVD-RW for something like this? I know the answer, because they're a corporation that needs to turn profit, but it would sure make for a happier consumer.
And judging by their, what, 7% market share of the industry, I'd say increased consumer satisfaction sure couldn't hurt their cause.
