Snuck on for one last post: All official rules should be kept, after all, we beark one, we break all. And I dont think its fair for those of us who busted our asses trying to build one in the time frame and accomplishing it and then we make breaks for those who are either slow or lazy.

BAWWW, get over it. It's just my opinion after all. I've talked to John (Triton) since he started this project, he literally got to work on it a day or so before this contest started, I don't see any harm in letting him join. The point of these things is to get people motivated to build portables by either being in the contest or getting inspired by the work displayed in one. If you guys are really so anal about timetables and the like, just make him turn in the entry a day or so early then, jeez.

I understand there are rules in place, and that's a good thing, they keep order; if the portable would have been started even a week in advance to the contest, I'd say no, but it's a freaking day. Come on, people.

I announced the contest, I make the rules, everyone shush balls.

Is it in the rules that a project that was started before the contest cannot be entered?

6) Portables will be encouraged to be STARTED on the day of commencement of the contest, so the time limit will be forced onto everyone. Go ahead and cheat though, whatever.

They are encouraged (bolded for idiots, apparently didn't work for crap) to be started on the day of commencement of the contest. I even told you to cheat! I think every who DIDN'T cheat should be disqualified!

Just deal with it, some people don't have their life devoted to this forum like others.

you're right. this forum is the devotion of my life. never mind my 2 jobs where i work 60+ hours a week. or the fact that i'm very active in my church. or the fact that i have tons of friends i hang out with. yup, this forum is definitely what i devote my life to.

and yet, somehow, i'm managing to follow the rules.

i have a feeling most of us thought you were kidding about the cheating part. or that you were simply referring to the 2 days before the competition started (rules posted 18th, comp started 20th). if it's the 2 days, i don't care. but when we start getting into a week or more of work before, that's just not fair to the rest of us. after all, you did state in the rule, in the same sentence, that the time limit would be forced onto everyone.

and which project of triton's are you referring to, cronotriggerfan...? as long as it's not the snesp in a dreamcast controller that he's been working on for months now, and it's a project he started only a few days, literally, before the competition, then yeah. join up.

Triton has like 100 projects going at once.

Anyway, everyone's taking this competition too seriously. The whole point was to inspire completed projects. It's not that big of a deal, and the time frame was intended to either force people start/finish or to only simply help motivate people to finish their existing projects.

I'm extremely ticked off. It turns out I had faulty tact switches for both my B button and L button, so I replaced those. It seems any time I use hot glue, I have to tear it up and fix something. So, after replacing those two buttons, I reconnected everything and did some testing. Everything worked perfectly, except the trace for the R button ripped off the IC at some point and any time I press left it also registers as select. What drives me nuts about the select + left problem is that NOTHING IS TOUCHING between the two. So now I think I'm going to have to replace the IC, which means cutting up another controller board, scraping traces, and reconnecting a bunch of wires.

It seems as soon as I fix one problem two more pop up.

What's even more frustrating is that I've used all my free time this weekend and I still do not have a finished portable.

Life of Brian - Interference between wiring (like I had before??) maybe. Try thicker wires or better insulated ones, or ground wires between the two.

I know the feeling. Except, mine is always with my av wiring... Oh, and dont glue it, screw it!

No seriously, until everything is done, use screw posts. I have some removable screw posts that I only kept in my portable untill all testing is done, saved me a thousand times!

I use 28AWG to wire the controllers in my portables so I don't think thickness is the issue. Sounds like the IC got fuxored.

I only use screw posts to hold the back panel on. Everything else is hot glue. I build all the guts and make sure its 100% working and then glue every single soldering joint. Then I install the parts. Haven't had a problem yet
