Battle of the Needlessly Updating Programs!

I'm glad Acrobat is winning. The more I think about it, the more I realize just how often it updates itself.

Somebody should try and use an OLD version of Reader, if they have it installed, to open a modern file. If it works, then all the Reader updates are total BS.

I also want to add, Acrobat reader, running in my Netscape, is the only program that routinely locks up on my computer. Netscape closes, but then there's still an instance of it running, thus you have to CTRL ALT DEL to close it before you can restart Netscape.

One quick thing about iTunes (since it's joined at the hip with Quicktime now)... ever notice it consumes a lot of power? I say this because I can run it, and if I run ANYTHING else remotely intensive iTunes begins to stutter.

My computer isn't the best, but I can full FMV in Premiere, while using a normal program like WinAmp, with several other programs open, and Winamp is fine. But iTunes must assume you A) Do nothing else with your computer whilst listening to music B) Have a brand-new 3000+ machine with a Gig+ of RAM.

I have Acrobat Reader 4.0 and it works great for me. I've never had a problem opening any PDF file...
Plus it's fast!

FOUR HUNDRED megs of ram from me... and i only have 256!

Then it used virtual memory (page files) on yoru hard disk. No matter how much RAM you have, you will always have page files.

i got adobe acrobat a long time ago and never update it (ever!) and it works perfectly. i didn't even know it had updates

Well I'm sure iTunes is rather high in system resouces it's also designed to use them the best way, example is that it has SMP builtin so if you get a dual core/CPU you get the full umff out of your system for the moment you use iTunes.

As for slow down, either it's you lack resources like less then 256MB ram (DDR is best) or the fact you're using Winodws. Windows is just know to suck when it comes to resource management, why the hell else can you run a BSD/linux based system on a PII and 128MB ram without any problems in performance, but Windows 2000 needs something like PIII (or higher) and 256MB ram to run smoothly?

I've seen iTunes run on a Windows XP machine, no real problems. Well the only thing that gets me is that it seems to like to open new windows rather then just change the main windows to the playlist you want.
