acually thats not true...

you can link 2 compuers together with usb, firewire, serial, and printer cables...you just need to install the right protocoll

Most PCs already have the software for Direct Cable Connections. (If they're running Windows.)

Or, you could always get a USB hard drive enclosure and put one of the machines' drives in there, and connect it to the other pc.

But if you link them together directly through an Ethernet crossover cable, you will get the fastest possible speed.

Expect to pay at least $10-$20 for a network card.
