After breaking my first radio altoid, i decided to make another. This one was so much more simple, but o well. The first one actually all the buttons accesible from the outside. But, i changed this one to give more of a ipodish affect.

I made a volume control from one of those Altoids gum tins, it was for regulating the volume that went from my GameCube to my earbuds. It worked fairly well, but some games were just right in volume that I could connect them directly. My idea for one (besides what I did)â€¦make it into an NOAC, have the screen in the lid (for a flip-up lid) and have a connector on the top for an external cartridge slot. I suggest something like an internal SCSI ribbon connector. The whole thing seems perfectly doable, except you might have to have an external player 2 port and stuff.

I've got the whole "NES-in-an-Altoids-tin" thing figured out. First of all, I don't think a normal NOAC would fit, so I'd have to use the glop-top from a Super 8/Tristar 64. I'd opt for the Tristar 64 because I believe it might have a SNES-on-a-chip inside it too, and that would be awesome! Cartridges would connect via an external slot by way of a ribbon cable (if anyone can find a 60-pin shielded SCSI cable, I would be greatful). The screen would have to be the 2.5" version of the one Ben uses for the Phoenix. Advantages include: it will fit in an Altoids box, the measurements work the ribbon cables are long, the boards are tiny, much of the stuff on the board with the composite input can go (all of the through-hole parts can be desoldered and moved (those 3 pots, possibly the switches, but I don't know what they do), or just removed (the power jack, the composite jack). For batteries, the only viable solution would be AAAs, 2 or 5 (preferred) if they can fit. A controller made from tact switches (think GBA SP-style) would be nice, and the right side could flip up for battery replacement (a row of 3 contacts would make the connections). That leaves sound, the real bugger. An audio amp IC would fit on the left side of the screen with the needed capacitors and the piezo transducer (speaker=too big!) on the left. My guess is a headphone jack would be the preferred method of listening (though it wouldn't reduce the power consumption, the piezo transducer would take less energy than the headphones, especially since there is only one). A power jack? Use the GBA method, through the battery teminals. An AV jackâ€¦wowâ€¦where?
