$30-35 for a typical DS game is hardly overpriced.

The cost thing is not a huge issue, I think DS and PSP games are, for the most part, well priced.

The convenience issue is the problem. With Steam or something, I can download a game for a low price, saving them the cost of a real disc, shipping, store profit, and all that. With DS games, I can either drive around to different stores till I find that obscure latest release, or I can download it right when it comes out, sometimes days beforehand.

More than a few times, I have downloaded a DS game, then sent $10 to the address they use for giving refunds. Like my own personal download able DS service.

I think that making DSi only titles download only will cut down on cost, make it easier to buy games, and limit piracy.

All that said, Chrono Trigger DS was so overpriced. $40 for a nearly unchanged port of the original with a few added dungeons.

That does bug me too. Square feels that they are so special that they can charge $40 for their DS games. The FF3 remake was also $40, and I saw the DS Crystal Chronicles game today at Target for $40. Madness.

I can handle $40 for a game like FF4 DS, where it was a full engine and art overhaul, with TONS of extra content.

The problem with CTDS was that there was seriously no new content worth the money.

I am still glad I bought/pre-ordered it, though; I got a soundtrack, and an exclusive poster! Those made it worth the $40, but for normal, non Chrono Trigger freaks, I would not say that is the case.

First they were $20, then $25, then $40, then they stayed at $50 for a while, now they're up to $60 and creeping to $70. Handheld games are cheaper but not as cheap as they used to be. And older games don't become as cheap, and they take way longer to get cheap.

yup. about the only way to get new games cheaper is on ebay. at gamestop they sell used 360 and ps3 games for about $56.99!! its frikkin insane!!1!

Are you kidding? When Pokemon Gold and Silver came out, they were $40! Hardly any handheld games are that price anymore.

Your cost increase is way off, games did not just shoot up in price. Most of the creep upwards has been due to inflation.

And what about the rest of the world? In most of Europe, the same games we enjoy for $50-60 are $80-100. We have very cheap games here in the USA.

Still, download only is the future.

That's just flat-out wrong. I specifically remember buying those right when they came out for ~$25. GBC/GBA games never went above $30.

The cheapest I ever saw any N64 game in a store was $40 (disregarding Funcoland, of course). Lots of them started in the $60-80 range, which was prohibitively expensive for me as a fourth grader.

I bought a sealed copy of Pokemon Snap for $5 at Wal-Mart when they were clearing games out.

Actually, only a year ago or so, they had some sealed copies of Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2 or 3 for N64 for $17 - and people bought them.

Unfortunately, a lot of games released for the DS and Wii for that matter have as much life in them as a drowning man - just a matter of minutes.
