new hdd?

yea, that would have been helpful. but how do i do that?

good thing i backed-up most of my install files.. didn't take me too long to reinstall.

Well with Linux, if you're using Ubuntu or any distro that has a live-CD, you can boot the live-CD, then you go into the grub directory. Once there you reinstall grub, very simple. Takes about 5 minutes.

With Windows, you boot the install CD, and select the repair option. Once in the command prompt you put in some command that reinstalls the bootloader. Sorry I can't be a little more descriptive, I'm not much of a Windows person anymore.

If you need more details there's always the internet, or if you ask I can help what you through it. I'm not currently running Ubuntu so I can't be more descriptive, sorry.
