To say that music doesn't influence people is either coming from an idiot or someone that just don't want to believe that people can be easily swayed.

Next time you're in the car listening to whatever it is you're listening to, take a second and think about how you feel. People can be come happy and energetic, or depressed, angry, or more empathetic when listening to music. When watching a scene in a movie, pay attention to the music that's in the background, it's used to help set or reinforce the mood.

I have to say that I don't really listen to most rap. I avoid it for the reasons already mentioned by Triton.

Now it is a shame that the grandmother didn't get a chance to smack that kid up. Yeah I know negative reinforcement isn't good, and acts like that only promote more violence. However knowing that I doubt the kid will think twice about doing something that stupid again. And to further drive home that he did something dumb because he thinks it's ok from GTA, all his games should be sold.

Something more than a weekend without video games is necessary.

None of that is Gangsta rap.

EDIT: Had to highlight that... Kayne West is a thug? Sorry, but your showing you don't know much about hip hop.

Those who are easily influenced by by media are either too young for the media or mentally unstable.

R U joking....

Anyway there was a study saying video games repress aggressive behavior ...The way you act after killing hoes in GTA it the same way you act after seeing a Kung fu move you are excited you come out of the theater pretending to karate chop your friend (stuff like that)

and I know this for a fact because every time I cut up some locust in Gears I just let go of all my anger.

The kid knows the difference between right and wrong. Not a direct quote here, but he said "I like doing bad things." Note that he didn't say "I like lighting the dog on fire," or "I like doing heroin," or "I enjoy stealing cars." He knew what he was doing was a bad decision at the time, and he did it.

And he's seven years old. He's not even halfway to getting his license under even the most liberal of state laws. I'm more curious how he learned to drive; that is, to start the engine, shift, etc.

If you ask me, his parents haven't disciplined him effectively enough to reinforce in him that there are consequences to his actions, especially to hear him say that he likes to do 'bad' things.

EDIT

Agreed. He should have been getting more of this earlier, if you ask me.

In my opinion, if more kids had sore butts every once in a while, the world would be a better place.
I got spanked when I was bad. Not 50 times till my butt would bleed, just one or two times so I'd think twice before I did something bad.

You're kidding me, right? The definition of a thug is a cutthroat ruffian or hoodlum. Ruffian means bully, and hoodlum means, of course, delinquent. That's the DEFINITION of Kanye West.

In all honesty, I think you're showing your disdain for the English language, or perhaps just common phraseology in general.

Had to highlight that...

Oh man, why don't you just call NC a Nazi while you're at it. Kanye West is pure studio, like Pufftard or whatever he calls himself now. He is most certainly not a gangsta, and has nothing to do with hip hop.

AND I DON'T EVEN CARE ABOUT MUSIC MADE AFTER 1991, but the distinctions are clear.

The problem with your thinking is that 99% of the rap people listen to says crap like "superman dat hoe". Rap might have been decent back when, but now its mostly complete garbage.

100% agreed. The majority of modern rap is all about demeaning sexual crap and how "whitey" is evil. Oh, and did I leave out the car jacking and killing people? Yeah, that, too.

No need to give me a lesson on the english language. I'm pretty sure I can speak in a way in which it's perfectly readable kthx.

And the gangsta stuff you speak of, it's called a gimmick. Do you think 50 Cent goes around killing people, pimping, picking up hoes etc.. nope. Does he write about it, yes. Does this make him a gangsta? No. It makes him a musician. Lets be honest here, Punk Rock, Metal (ugh) and Rock, are the most mainstream types of music available otherwise Hip Hop, do they carry a friendly message? Not really..
