A step-up is much better, trust me; you don't want the inefficiency of two separate battery sources. As for using the PSOne screen 7805, it would most likely draw too much power and create excess heat, seeing as it's an SMD IC.

@dragonball: I don't think transformers/bleeding resistors would be too efficient honestly. Tie the batteries in parallel, yeah, and feed them into a custom power supply with 4 regulators (I'll post more pics as said before).

Those aren't very efficient, they just turn the extra voltage into heat. The bigger the difference between input and output voltage, the more heat produced, depending on the amps drawn, too.techknott wrote:use LM317's(adjustable)
You could use these regulators (or their fixed voltage versions). Their max output amperage is only 1A, though, so the 1.9v line will need 2 or 3 of them (they can be put in parallel). You could probably build a similar setup (or just use the original regulator board) for less and in a smaller area, but they'd be good if you don't want to mess around with other options.
Does anyone know how efficient the original board is? Is it just the 12v input that people want to get around?

If you feed 7.4v into a GameCube power board (which outputs different voltages into the system), could it yield the 1.9v, 3.3v and 5v and just leave us needing a step-up regulator for the 12v line? When I start the GC project I will experiment, just wondered if anyone knew the answer.

Im planning on borrowing a power supply with adjustable inputs fom where i work. Itll let me adjust it to anything i want voltage wise at least not sure about anything else i should be able to get it for a while if not tommorow i will be able to get it in a few eeks tell me if you want me to test anything. I also saw a proffesional vac forming machine whee i work since its between two schools i could use it but it didnt seem rdy to accept like a wooden block for mold not sure though will check it out.

The lowest you can go to on the GC psu is 10v. At 10v it will output all voltages except the 12v line, by which it will put out whatever you put in. The 12v line is not regulated in any way, it connects straight to the main psu input.
btw, you can get mc34063's from just about any 12v car cigarette lighter plug. They can be used as step up, down or inverting dc-dc converters, just grab the datasheet.
Here is a schematic of mine ive made, please dont flame. My circuit drawings leave a lot to be desired.

I spent a couple of hours wiring my powerboard to my motherboard today along with some testing and I couldnt get it too power on i fed in voltages all the way up to 12.1 volts. I connected every wire individually too so anybody know what could be wrong I may just not of been able to tell its on since i dont have everything to indicate to me. but not sure. But when i used a i cant beleieve i forget the name but the thing that measures amps/volts and stuff i couodnt get a reading anywhere.
