I think a dedicated server costs more than $10 a month. *looks it up on the host's website* Holy. crap.bacteria wrote:It probably only costs, what, $10 a month for the web site?
At least it isn't as bad as a year ago. Back then we were still on a virtual host with another company, and occasionally when something people really liked came out, they'd chew up our bandwidth allotment and we'd be left high and dry for a month, or Ben would have to shell out the cost of the additional bandwidth. (Though it was probably cheaper.)
It also looks like the amount of traffic we're getting has skyrocketed since Nov. 27, that may have something to do with it:

I bet it's a combination of G-force's NES controller getting on Hack a Day and the Pandora Battery mod tutorial...
This probably would have been lethal for the old shared hosting.

Rememeber when the First XBOX 360 Laptop came out. The site crashed because so many people were trying to get on the site. So they could see it and read about it.bicostp wrote:At least it isn't as bad as a year ago. Ahem, so it's my fault with my guides then!?
When I was using PhotoBucket I was using (according to their site) about 6Gb of their bandwidth space in a month from access to my pics (you get about 25Gb a month on free, on one free account). This month so far, it is 1.3Gb (only the 5th of the month though...); and a number of my new pics are on a different uploader at the moment...
I have a dedicated box in Canada with 1 TB of monthly bandwidth for $30+ a month. The dedicated I have now for EFNet has a Celeron clocked at 2.40 GHz and 512 MB of RAM.bicostp wrote:I think a dedicated server costs more than $10 a month. *looks it up on the host's website* Holy. crap.bacteria wrote:It probably only costs, what, $10 a month for the web site?
