That actually wasn't a run-on. But it should say:hammertime94 wrote:I tried using a stranded IDE cable for cart slot relocation, but all of the loose strands were getting in the way and causing multiple pins to be connected and would've screwed everything up! (Was that a run-on or what?) So, I'm going to find some solid stranded ribbon cable and try again.

Yes, I'm double posting again. I finally got my stuff in from mouser plus a few things from the shack. I haven't been able to do anything lately because my soldering iron tip got all corroded and was putting off fumes that probably are going to give me cancer or something down the road but anyway... Yesterday, I got a replacement so I'm going to start working this weekend (I have a football game tonight and I'm going to a football game tomorrow). I'm just waiting for my screen, controller, and Donkey Kong 64. When they come in I'll really be able to get going.

When you use a soldering iron for a while it becomes less effective with the gunk that builds up on it; I give it a light sandpapering and all is ok again. You might like to try this with your corroded soldering iron tip in case it makes it useful again. You might not use it for regular soldering, but it could still be useful for desoldering work possibly.

OK, cool. Donkey Kong 64 and my controller came in yesterday so I should be able to start this weekend. My PSOne screen should come in today, but I'll have to wait for the AC adapter so no tests as I work. I'll just be doing cart slot relocation and wiring the buttons to the controller anyway so I can test both at the same time later.
Would it be better to run my 5V (at 90mA) fan off of the 7.5V line or the N64's 3.3V line (b/t the regulator and the DC input jack)?
Something freaky's going on with my soldering iron. Every time I use it this weird brown goo drips off of it. I can only get it off by making drops of solder drip down it and wiping it with a wet paper towel. Then after I get one more joint it does it again! I have a 15W and 35W iron (not one with to heat settings, two seperate ones) and the both do it! What should I do

EDIT: I got it all taken care of. I'm just that good.
J/K.

OK, I think this deserves a new post. I finally have everything in and I can start work soon! I can't tonight because I have a football game, but I might be able to Friday and this weekend. I'm going to be out of town this weekend, but I'm taking my stuff with me I just won't be able to post pics until I get back Sunday. I'm so excited!
Oh yeah, and you may have noticed in the name change for the thread that I have decided on the name Hammer64.(No, I am not obsessed with hammers, well, except for the ones related to me anyway. Hint, hint, wink, wink, nudge, nudge. Nor does it have anything to do with "getting hammered" as I have had that joke made before.)

Yeah, I know, triple post, it just doesn't feel right to mush it together! With the 2k resistor on my PTH0800 WAH, my multimeter read 4.3V. When I put a pot on it and set it to about 810 Ohms, my multimeter said 3.3V. Should I leave it that way? Is mine just a little bit different? I know the resistor sets the voltage so it should be okay, right? Someone please answer!
EDIT: I tried putting the 2k back on it and it came out as 3.23V I have no idea what was going on but I was tired when I got those readings...
All fine now!

What I want to know is if you use a 2k ohm resister and get around 3.3v as required, how stable this is under load - will it maintain this voltage, or drop or spike. Very relevant for the N64 - drop = no boot (under c. 2.8v) over about 4v or so and the N64 fries, smokes. I asked people about this a while back, got no replies, so I don't know the answer - I remember someone in the forum saying they gave up on the TI's due to voltage changes, but I am not sure if I remember this correctly or not. If the TI card is fine under load, you can use the Expansion Pack; if not, the car adapter I use is fine, as long as you only use the Jumper Pak and only use mains and not battery power. PS - We want pics please as your project unfolds!!

Okay, I stupidly removed the left ribbon cable connector on the PSone LCD, and now, after trying to solder a wire on to the +7.5V connection, the little pad to it is gone! I need to find another way to connect it. Any ideas? BTW, the connection on the back of the board is the same pad thing as the one on the front.
Bacteria, I'm using the PSone AC adapter (I always thought it was adaptor) not battery power. I think I'll stick with the TI regulator.
I need yet another soldering iron tip since it's only dripping residue. Then I'll do the cartridge slot (I've been putting it off).
Here are the images you wanted to see, Bacteria!

Enjoy![/i]

A tip: if you are putting hot glue on your connections to hold them together, don't! If you need this to hold them together, you are soldering wrong.
Get some flux from RatShack if you don't already have some, brush a bit on t he wires and heat up the connection, then touch the iron to it.
If you make a good connection you won't ever need the hot glue. Makes it hard o go back and fix things (which you will probably need to).
Looking good so far.
