I think you guys should do a dreamcast laptop. Honestly with the super team of people who will do this you could make this thing awesome.

jeffslot wrote:Hmmm, I was hoping for a bit more of a response. Unless I made a mistake that is only 2 fully qualified participants (thanks for the support guys), I'll give it maybe another day to see if anyone else signs up, but it's now looking like this might not get off the ground. I wonder if I should take my funds & make a play for the Nintari.....

Here is a recap of the scenario...

Qualified and on Board (2)-

Skyone - "I'm down for it if others are."
CronoTriggerfan - I'm really busy right now, but I'm sure I can find a few spare hours during the weekend or something.

On the fence-

Kurt_ - I'd pitch in bbut I'm in Canada.
Triton - depending on what you decide to build i may be interested in helping out
timmeh87 - Ill sign on as a 'consultant' if you want. Maybe a 'designer'

Willing to help, but not sure about experience level.

nightwheel - "Is there anyway I can help with this project"
dragon - havent finished a portable yet but i might be able to help figure out problems.
PeglegJimmy - I might help, if you end up doing a Dreamcast.
jackfb13 - Hmm i could help with simple stuff...

DC Laptop sounds Ok, to me. Not too exciting.

Would you be interested in a Neo Geo at all?

I kind of want you to finish the GCp before you get even more bogged down though....

Who asked you about that? Not too worry, I can multi-task. :P

I'm not too sure about a Neo-Geo, I've never been too interested in them. If others want to though, I'm good for anything (as said before).

Marshallh. Holy Cow -

This is an awesome development. :D
Marshallh - tomorrow I'll share some important info with the people working on the project, such as my budget etc.

Ok, it seems like the next logical step would be to figure out what project we should pick. maybe we should make a poll? What do you guys think?

Atari 2600 (my 1st attempt was a 2600 - failed miserably)
Intellivision
NES or Yobo
Neo-Geo (I've been thinking doing one of these again for awhile - also Jamma is pretty easy to work with)
Dreamcast
Genesis
PS2
N64
Gamecube
Xbox
Other

If you guys really wanted an interesting project you could try your hands at a PCp sort of thing.

I think that would be pretty interesting to see what you all could do with case design and how everything is wired.

those are still VERY difficult suggestion, remember that this will be spread out amonst people, but it is still essentially a single man job

Now My suggestion is to take something and go overboard with it, by this I mean like a multi portable (ben broke it with the NEStari, but meh) You could combine like a PSone and a SNES portable, those are two relatively easier systems, but two people could prep each and another can bring them together, also, they are small

I wish I could help, but hey I'm a full timer in college and the fact I am even browsing the forums means my GPA is dropping, but meh...

depending on the portable I may be interested. But I would definitly not be interested in making a case completely free of charge. Maybe interested in some wiring though

Well, if we end up going the Dreamcast route, I've got a console and some controllers gathering dust that I could donate to the fund! :P

Turbo,

Everyone knows you make awesome cases, I'd be super psyched to have you on board, but please read the post. I'm not asking anyone to do anything free of charge (of course if you want to I'd accept).

Jeffslot wrote:
Oh Yeah, did I mention I was going to pay the participants? I can't afford much, but I was thinking something along the lines of $8 an hour for time (under-the-table). I'd also have to probably limit that to an "estimate of hours" to complete the task so I don't run over budget.

Thanks.

Jeff

This is a great idea. I think you should grab this opportunity to make a not so easy portable or perhaps something along the lines of Bacteria's project. But it would be kind of a waste using all that time and money on a portable that isn't really worth making (like imagine making an atari 5200 portable :? who would want to play that ??). But yeah Dreamcast is a great idea.
Just giving my opinion, if I may
