For what I know, the closest and only Benhecker near me is Cennar.

As for anime, I don't know fact one about it, and frankly, hate it. Hopefully I can hire a diehard fan to handle that end of the stick.

I like the idea of certain shows and events. I thought about having stuff like "James Bond Week" and "Sequelmania".

while a couple of arcade or MAME cabinets are a good idea, you might want to consider focussing on the cinema first and getting that up and running and then adding in the extra stuff

It'd just be a bit less to deal with at once for you

Well, they're not TOO hard to find. Hang around some geeky college students and you should find one in no time.

we know everyone in this forum would love that idea, but we love games and modding. you should ask another forum not related to games.

i would love it, but would all the skateboarders and bballers and everyone else? modders are a bit of a minority

i honestly love the idea and would be all for helping set up someting like this were it in my area, i figure you could get something like this up and running for (totally rough estimate) 30 grand or more, probably plus quite a bit more to buy the building, that 30g would pay for : arcade machines, projectors, renovation to the building, advertizements, concession stuff, possibly movie rights and stuff like that too (public domain stuff for the win! indie stuff too) sure it sounds like a lot of money but if you budget well and run everything right you could earn that back in a few years or less depending on a lot of stuff, the most expensive part would be getting the building, permits upkeep of the building etc. that stuff is crazy expensive, especialy in larger cities.

Hi Ray,

Thanks. Probably 99% of the repertory films we show are on film. We have a
matinee series that is almost entirely repertory that we screen at 11:30am
each Saturday and Sunday. Our midnight showing are also almost entirely
repertory. For these prints, we have to find them through either a
distributor or a private collector, and an agreement has to be reached with
whomever owns the rights to the film. Our regular features are a mix of
independent, foreign and classic repertory films. For those repertory films,
we are usually dealing with distributors who have released new prints of the
films. Again, a deal has to be made with the distributor. This works almost
exactly like a new release. The percentages that you have to pay out will
vary depending on the film.

We only screen DVDs when it is absolutely necessary. Part of the appeal of
going to the theatre is watching a movie on film. This is especially true of
a crowd who wants to see a film like Days of Heaven or Belle de Jour. It's a
discerning audience that can tell the difference. When your competing with
mainstream theatres for people's entertainment dollars, you have do the
little things that they don't do. As those theatres move more towards
digital, it becomes more important for a theatre like us to continue to show
things on film. We are also growingly in competition with the home theatre
market. We have to offer things to our customers that they can't get at
home. Watching a movie on film is something that most people aren't capable
of at home.

I wonder if it would be possible to show anime larger without just scaling up the picture (even most scaling algorithms don't improve it much). For the most part, you could probably convert it to vector art to scale it up, but there are always special cases, and it would take forever. Hmmâ€¦
