hmm... how do I get an NES to run off batteries? I think I read something about putting +5v on a certain blob of solder or something... maybe I should have found out before I ripped it apart...
Thanks! So the one labeled 7805 (or on mine 17805) by the big capacitor? put 5v on the pin on the right? Then what do I attach to the negative end of thee battery?
I put 6v (how the heck am I supposed to get 5v without special batteries???) on the right pin, then put the negative end to the metal strip on the side of the mobo, and it didn't work... did I fry it?
edit: the best way to figure out if something is fried is... to plug it in the way it's supposed to and try turning it on! So I did that and... *long suspenceful pause* ...it still worked so what did I do wrong?
Perhaps you put it in backwards. Although you may have put it on the right (as in directional) pin, your 7805 may have been reversed, thus making the pin you soldered to output. So try soldering to the opposite pin. Also, was your 7805 still grounded?
did you run the ground through the middle pin on the 7805? Just put more than 7v into the farthest pin left, put ground in the middle, and then the rightmost will output +5v and put that in the middle hole of the five. And put the ground on the metal strip.
