SS - You don't need good grades in school to be successful in life - if you point out to your Father that your interest is electronics, that is your forte, you might persuade him to get you on an electronics course with an aim of doing that for a living.

Skyone - May I suggest a sticky which ONLY has completed portables and vids on it for this compo, no comments from other members on them until after the closing date of the compo. That will keep everything clean - just project submission entries.

I've been away from these forums for a while and I've realized this compo recently. Is it possible to enter the contest now as there's still 20 days for me to make my portable? If possible, I'm in with a (again) wooden cased portable.

It's been a week since I started. I guess it's not before the start of the compo.

Indeed, the more the merrier!! :D Go for it c_mon!

My project is starting to take shape now, progress is slow as I am having to be very careful with the work. Won't be long now before I start wiring the system and getting the mini multi-platform female connector wired up. Should be at that stage tomorrow when I can do this; I have been working on other parts of the system today.

I thought I would try to remove the anti-alaising layer from the PSone screen, as a screen I had (rather than using a brand new one) had some marks on it. Chickened out a bit after the four hours were up, as I was being probably far too gentle trying to remove the layer, didn't get a corner off; so stopped - noticed however that after giving the screen a wipe, the blemishes I had (which spurred me into trying the mod in the first place) had gone, so that solved the problem!! :P

On another note, took delivery of a PS2 8" screen today; no chance for doing anything with it for this compo, but will be worth opening it up for a future project - have some ideas, but my current project is taking a lot of time to complete (intensive); then I need to get back to making more systems for the multi-platform system!! :D

The system is complete, but I'm experiencing some control glitches. The volume goes all the way up when I first turn it on (probably due to a short somewhere) and the game pauses itself every now and then. Once I work out the kinks, I'll be 100% done!

Of course, I could just take pictures of it and you'd never know it wasn't working correctly...

Might be that you wired the connections to the volume up tact switch on the PSone screen (or corresponding button) to the wrong connections, easy to do.

Yeah, It is. I did it once, I felt stupid when I realized" Ground doesn't need to be bridged with ground, does it? Oh wait, wrong contacts!" :P

The volume issue was simply due to a short caused when I closed the case. A thin insulating layer of hot glue fixed that problem. I stayed up late last night trying to figure out my other issues, and I think it boils down to a faulty tact switch for my B button. Everything else checks out. I'm going to try replacing that, and if it works then hopefully I'll finish soon.
