Biscotp, I got Quicktime Pro. Lots of settings... wondering which you used for those examples you made that time?

I thought about using Windows Media Encoder (free) but the output just wasn't as good as H264.

Definitely. The compression ratio difference between plain-vanilla QuickTime and H264 is absolutely amazing. (under my Video uploads directory, I made an H264 version of the PW trailer with no discernable difference in quality, but the file was about 4 megs. You can stick it on the main servers here and make a second download link if you want.)
And then Ben wrote:Anyone got pointers on Quicktime Pro? I drag in the DV file, then select my output size, bit rate, quality, etc and go for it?
Yup. Just open the file with QuickTime Player and select Export from the File menu. Then you can select a file format, and compression settings for it. (For H264 you need to use MPEG-4.)

Just remember, anyone who wants to play the video needs either QuickTime 7 or VLC Media Player. (But that's not a huge requirement.)

OK. How did you do the iPod video version?

If you want, email me or we could do Messenger. I'd like your input on this.

h.264 is pretty processor intensive, my 1.0Ghz computer won't play it watchibly, by desktop will play it just fine, but it won't play well for anyone with a lower end computer, I think anything below about a 1.5Ghz pentium will probably display it poorly.

Hey guys. I have the iPod version created. It's only 378 megs! Quicktime MP4 takes longer to encode than a DVD, but oh well.

Having my laptop create the large version now. I'm going a little higher than originally planned, probably 1.3 gigs total. Since it's full size video (640x480) I prefer a bit more quality.

But if I have time, maybe I should do an intermediate version, say around 700-800 megs? Whadda all think?

CCing this to the PW Premiere topic.
