yeah sometimes solder's hard to stick on traces. use lemon juice or flux to help get it tinned. once it's tinned you shouldn't have a problem

You should use a flathead screwdriver to scrape it off. It gets all the green epoxy off, whereas a knife or sandpaper leaves little bits that will prevent the solder from sticking very well. Don't forget to use a good amount of flux and a hight heat iron when you solder to the copper. You know the iron is hot enough when the flux starts to boil adn then the solder starts to stick.

Put flux directly on the trace first, then apply solder onto the trace. Then, you'll have something good to stick to the wires.
