FireWire 800 came out in 2002, and goes at 800Mbps.

I feel sorry for anybody who's using USB 1.1 at 12Mbps, but you obviously don't need it any faster, or you would've upgraded.

Dragonhead, is that 2 separate buses(IEEE 1394a and IEEE 1394b), or do you have a bilingual bus? I don't know the individual person, but I know that Apple created the FireWire bus, which I suppose is the reason that most Macs running OS 8.1 and later use have the bus.

When I get my old computer running, I'm talking my Aunt's old PC, and I'm going to network them with FireWire for my server(which holds up the end of my bed).

I'm not sure why Firewire never quite caught on, but it definitely is blazing fast. I happen to have 1 firewire port, which I put my external drive on. Such speed!!

firewire has POWAH!
I had 2 on my old PC, but now i upgraded to have 6 firewire and 4 usb. I had a lot of things that convert firewire to usb, so it's worth it.

ZINGO!

Yes apple invented it. They needed something new and faster for DV cameras, and it eventually evolved for other things. like external disk drives and direct computer-to-computer networking. it started at 100mbps, the graduated on to the current 800.

and i believe my computer has 2 seperate buses. it has one FW800 and 2 400. i love my PowerMac G5. (squee!)

It's not every person, it's Luc, and it comes from a joke that started while you were banimatized, so don't say a thing about it.

This is in reply to zacko's post, which he just edited.

i suddenly think you are way cool!

oh and according to the way things are going, with apple going intel, google growing exponentially, linux becoming evermore popular, and with windows vista not flying to well with a bunch of people, microsoft will die a lot sooner than people think. i did not come up with this theory, but i damn well agree with the many people who think this!

Microsoft won't die unless computer sellers like Dell stop shipping their computers with Windows. Even then, Microsoft will probably become one of those pathetic companies that tries creating software for the operating systems that people are using, and they'll try to keep the XBOX line going. Then when that tires, they will bring out the YBOX, the XBOX in a new casing that has a Y on it.

I doubt that Microsoft will die, but they'll probably lose their OS line in a few years.

It your processor supports sse3 then you're all set.
(Dont blame me if you do this and apple decides to make an example of you. )
