That's as good as saying "Just go buy the Library of Congress..." to him. He simply doesn't have the money. It's not gonna materialize, and it wouldn't be wise to buy it on credit on count on luck...
I got the same problem, just cant buy the parts, not the book. Before I bought the book, I went to B&N got the book and spent hours studying it. I eventually just bought it.

I didn't buy it cause for one thing I don't have the time to spend ordering it on the net, and I don't have the money to spare. Is there really anything somebody like me could get from it? I mean ben released almost all his screen stuff already on the net. Is there anything he only kept for the book?
And I could never use any of the case guides. I like to make and design everything myself
From the stuff you've made, I'd say you don't even need the book. You know the LED mods? How to desolder RF boxes? Where to rewire those annoying capacitors at the top of a mini-SNES? Basic soldering? You're good to go. Before I got the book though, I knew none of this (except basic soldering).
