Re: PSP2 officially announced
totally and if you noticed they have stuck down a few formats in the past. with few failures as a company compliant in standardization. (Sick in away) Fact remains they are paying attention. Time will tell if they noticed the big move towards subscriptions and apps to move there soft ware... oh wait a second yeah they are getting on that. Check over the units pictures and tell me how you think they plain on uploading these games some of which are out on the android already
I have just rolled a massive joint. Have a good day all.

Re: PSP2 officially announced
I would like to point out that it will not be called the psp2, but instead the NGP. and also, it will not be a phone as state specifically by Andrew House, a Sony Exec as stated here.

Technically, NGP is just the code name. It may very well be called PSP2 upon release.

Re: PSP2 officially announced
next generation portable? why would you run that once it's current gen. it's like going on that world of tomorrow ride at the worlds fair today!
Re: PSP2 officially announced
Two things:
First, the PSP was a success in terms of sales and being quite high in sales apart from Nintendo. (wasn't a big fan, just stating facts)
Second, as much as I hope Marshal is right about the $299 price tag. I just don't see how its possible what with its powerhouse specs, OLED, and 3G (although that part will be optional for a more expensive version)
I'm thinking $350.

Re: PSP2 officially announced
i could see it being $300-350ish for the 3G-less version.. no telling how much the 3G one will be.. maybe $350-400? either way.. sony better keep the price down for the early adopters.. cause the $250 price point on the 3DS could hurt them in the beginning.
or course, the 3DS could be crap.. though reviews have been pretty good so far.. minus the battery life.. but i don't see the NGP being any better when it comes to that.
its good to see sony and nintendo battle it out again on the portable side.

Sony chasing down pubescent porn collecting FPS cracker kids, and Nintendo busting out rail shooters and puzzle games in awesome 3d aimed at little Asian girls
(Pube-scent, English is awesome)\
When will x-box make there stab at a portables? Why don't they cut to there market? Make a Buick with twelve built in units, each P2P online ready with post dated billing ready to go at the low low price of 800 dollars?

Re: PSP2 officially announced
Yea, NGP is just a 'prototype' name.
I reckon it should be called the PlayStation Portable 2 (PSP2).
NGP sounds like a Nokia Phone model name with a a touch of the Motor GP franchise.
And there is no way it is as 'powerful as a PS3'. That would be a marketing technique. What they mean is, it will be able to play cut down versions of PS3 game titles much like the Sony presentation at Tokyo with Uncharted being played

Re: PSP2 officially announced
The success or failure of this system will be games. They surely by now must realize that the primary reason for the success of the DS is that the games are not console-type epics that take dozens of hours to beat. It is the type of games that you pick up to play for a few minutes (and as often as not, realize you've been playing so long that your neck is cramping).hailrazer wrote:That though IS the reason it is not a raging sucess.Bush wrote: forgive me, but the PSP really didn't have that many great games. .
Also, children.

I agree ALMOST completely. But I think massive games on the NGP will be very important to its success. I think the DS managed to balance well with casual and hard core audiences (dont forget that it did have some larger games like Mario 64, castlevania, and other nintendo classics). The NGP is clearly making a stance for the hard core gamers. Not a bad idea. With the 3G, Call of Duty, and inevitable add-ons and perks, the casual gamers might be just as satisfied.
From the lineup I've seen, games won't be an issue at all. On the other hand, what I think will "make or break" this system is the price.
oh, and this system won't be for children. At all.

Re: PSP2 officially announced
Anyone care to post the technical specs that are known so far? I don't have any compelling reason to look into the handheld too deeply, but I'm still interested in how it stacks up technologically.
