Wouldn't know the full details, you may have already read something like this, but I just googled it.
Only reason I particularly did this because I thought I've seen something like this before, but I finally came to my senses and recalled it was regarding the PSP's wireless antenna. Oh well, I still think I found something.

Thanks, I have looked at that already and the scorpion IC chip does not appear to exist anymore. I assume it was something like a wideband amp, probably could use a NEC UPC2745TB as the amp instead, but my knowledge on RF is not as good as it used to be. I believe my problem is the antenna that I am using and need to change it and find the right one that works best with the 360.

Yeah I ended up soldering a 26AWG wire to the crystal solder pad (side farthest from the main IC chip) and then ran the wire up thru the top of the controller and soldered a 3db (one from a wireless G router) antenna to the other end and then taped it to the back of the battery pack so the antenna sticks out and can bend straight up when holding the controller horizontal. I got a bout an extra 2ft. - 5ft out of it but the battery pack needs to be charged full when it gets down low it begins to flake out again. I havent tried using 2 3volt batteries in it instead of the standard 1.5. That probably would help. Of course shortly after I got a ROD on my unit and they shipped me out another and this unit seems to have a stronger signal on it as my other wireless controllers seem to not have as much problems dropping signals. The other thing is I got more range when I turned vibrations of on the controller.
