i may have only joined a few weeks ago, but i agree with no spam. it sucks! my email always gets cluttered with spam, so i can imagine about how frustrating it can be on forums. especially with all the spambots automatically posting things.

What if the moderators had banning permissions? Would that at least help removing the posters?

Honestly, I don't think that's a good idea; far too much potential for abuse. Let's say some moderator decides he doesn't like one member for whatever reason... that member could be banned simply because the mod doesn't like him. See what I'm getting at?

As for the spambot filter, ReCAPTCHA works excellently, though I wouldn't be opposed to the other methods being employed, either. Actually, how about a combination of two of them? It would take only a very small amount more work to register, but the bots would be blocked very well.

Just a personal opinion, but I am not sure this one attack really warrants implementing a whole new system. I mean, how often does it really happen? I think that how it is currently handled is fine. But that’s just me.

We get a few every day, and we're tired of cleaning up after them.

Besides, right now there's nothing stopping another spambot coming in to make another gigantic mess. And it's not like this will affect you in any way; you already signed up.
