OK, I checked and I'm gunna save up to get the everun note. Which did you but? the more expensive one that runs windows xp (the one with the 24G SSD; D24S) or the one on with the 60 GB HDD that runs windows xp (D60H) as well?

i would get the D60h and sell the hdd and but a 32 or 64gb Mtron SSD for it (their FAST SSDs) it will cost more but you get a performance boost. the d60h with xp home is about 850$ retail but look around at the retailers i mentioned for a better price

it can fit a 5mm thick 1.8" drive so im pretty sure the Mtron SSDs will fit, people have used them before, their literally 2-3X faster than the 60gb hdd or the stock 24gb SSD (3k crystalmark score for the 60gb, 4k for the 24gb SSD and ~8-10k for the mtron SSD)

Re: Question about gaming and UMPC's: Anyone have input
Do you know anyone who has done that? and it seems the only the ssd's they have are special order, which is probably going to make them really expensive. Plus, I dont have that much money so for now the only umpc that is seeming really good to me is the pandora. Its cheap, has built in game controls, so modest stuff is in developement for it, and ithas the internet and its own form of steam in developement.

Form of Steam? If you mean TINXL, it is NOT Steam in any way.
Also, I told you to get a Pandora already.
And the Pandora is not a UMPC, by the way, at least as far as the normal definition goes.

How about using a SanDisk SSD? To me those would most likely be more easy to obtain and there sorta inexpensive.

Way slower, too. And possibly too thick to fit.

Ahh ok. Well the thing is I'm probably going to buy a everun note during the summer. If the pandora second batch is on slae by then i may buy one instead; I'm gunna play it by ear. Thing is would it be possible to get by with just using the ssd that the everun note comes with?

Re: Question about gaming and UMPC's: Anyone have input
it will work fine but its a lot more expensive for the 24gb SSD version versus the 60gb HDD version and that SSD isnt nearly as fast as the mtron one. testing with crystalmark the 24gb SSD scored like 4000, the 60gb hdd scored 3000 but the 32gb mtron SSD scored around 10,000! its more than twice as fast so it will perform better
so its either pay a bit more for better performance or save money and get less performance. personally im pretty happy with my D60H model, if you turn off cool n quiet mode it will run @ 1ghz on battery and i could play portal on medium settings with just a bit of lag

hmmm ok. I think I may just need to save a decent more amount of money and I'll buy both towards the summer. The Everun Note is like a DS but mucho more powerful and plays most of the games that are easier to play with others online. Do you think this system would be powerful enough to play the source mod - Goldeneye Source or D.I.P.R.I.P?

it runs portal and halflife 2 no problems so i dont see why it wouldnt run various source mods, unless they have significantly higher system requirements that is

Well, there's a few versions of the Source engine:
Source (HL2, HL2:Ep1, HL2:DM, CS:S. DOD:S, mods from that time like Gmod 9)
Source 2007 (Portal, HL2:Ep2, Team Fortress 2, Gmod 10, most new mods)
Source 2008 (Left 4 Dead)
They're all the "Source" engine, but there are subtle differences. (2007 has better facial animation and loses DX7 support, 2008 has better multicore optimization and no DX8 support...) So you'll get some performance differences. For example, my 2.0 ghz single-core Turion / Radeon Xpress 200m laptop can run Half-Life 2 on all high settings just fine, Portal in DX 8 mode just fine on medium (there's an issue with this video chipset that causes problems with Source 2007 and DX9), Team Fortress 2 at between 22 to 4 (yes four) FPS in normal gameplay (waah) because there's so much going on. And for some reason it adds a half-second delay to all controls but aiming in Counter-Strike.
You definitely won't be playing the FakeFactory Cinematic Mod on it.
(Those 2048x2048 textures are a killer.)
