I'm not sure if this is the console or cable side- you may have to invert the picture. Shove a wire in the composite video and one in the ground hole as well. Now get a normal av cable. Wrap the video wire around the centre pin of the connector and wrap the ground around the outer umm... thing. Plug into your TV and test. You may need to jiggle the wires a bit.

You'll be able to tell whether or not that's on the console side by looking for where the missing pin is.

so I shove a wire in the console and wrap it around the middle connector of the av cable, how will this test my sound? doesn't the sound come from the other wires (red and white)

sound L is white, sound R is red, if I remember correctly.

Sound is same principle, different connections. Ground is the same.

Ground is the outer ring on the cables.

so I should have 3 wires shoved into the correct hole in the pinout attached to the av cable?
am I missing any thing?

You might also need the ground connected to the outer rings on the cables if it doesn't want to work.

He means ground is on the outer ring of the RCA cable. Ground is a pin on the Genesis.

which pin? because in the pic its pointing to a blank space

p.s. I tried without a ground and it didn't work. I sort of coiled the wire around the av cable, is that the what you meant?
then I tried putting the wire for composite video in all of the pin holes and nothing happened :(

You can get a ground from the ground prong on your electrical outlet, or from bare metal on the back of your computer.

Ignore nevermind's advice. Earth ground is different from device ground.

I feel stupid. Ground is on the shield part of the connector. There should be enough room to shove a wire in there.

I did this last night and the sound worked!

but the sad part is I played my whole child hood without sound because the people who gave me the genesis said "the sound chip is blown out"
too bad I was too stupid to check and see if the cord was faulty :x lol

I still use the earth ground if I have to sometimes. That's what is even used for ground sometimes.

And I'm glad to hear that you got the sound to work.
