Alright men (and some women), this is a sad update indeed. It seems while messing with the desoldered dock connector I knocked off a couple of pins (3 to be exact) which will render the whole dock connector useless. I'm looking for an alternate means of connection while keeping the project as minimalistic as possible. Everything else is working fine though. I haven't had much time to spend on it recently because of school and such, but I plan to devote at least 10 hours to it this week and hopefully finish it. Until then, well do whatever you want I don't care

Would any of those help your situation??

Re: Re:
Yes, I have been away for a while and there has been no progress, but this is by no means a dead project. I'm still planning on having it done by MGC.
Actually yes they would, very much in fact! Thanks for pointing this out!clabland wrote:http://www.chargeconverter.com/shop/connpcb.htm

Re: nesPod (56k beware)
Quick little update:
I decided to ditch the dock connector mumbo jumbo and just route all the cables and connectors manually through the dock. It is not want I originally anticipated, but you've got to be willing to make sacrifices amirite? I have to make a stop at RadioShack soon to get some ports to set up the controllers. So really what I'm aiming for is 2 controller ports in the front of the dock, AV and DC-in connectors in the back, and housing the actual system in the actual iPod casing.
I should have at least the base system up and running in the next few days, so expect an update soon.

Re: nesPod (56k beware)
Guys girls, girls guys, I've got an update here! This is really an update to make sure everything is working. I have no idea why some of these are a little blurry, I was using my Canon 30D SLR, might have been low light conditions.

My current soldering station, as you can see it's kinda a mess.

Just testing everything making sure it works so I soldered a RCA socket onto the board and powered it via USB. I had to hang it like this because the only free USB port I had was on my keyboard.

Not really a close up, but it shows how temporary these connections are.
That's it for today, company is coming over. In my next update I should have the wires running through the iPod shell and the dock and have a quick mockup of what it will look like.

Are you using a desoldering iron to solder?!
Nice job so far!

Nah, there's a soldering iron holstered right next to it.XCVG wrote:Are you using a desoldering iron to solder?!

Starting to fire up the irons again, 1:10 AM and the night has just begun!

Re: nesPod (56k beware)
Quick little update, no pictures but I have a couple of questions. The whole project is at about 75%-80%, the last thing to do is finish getting the lightgun pinned out and glue/snap it all together. I have all the elements in place and I haven't fried the board yet (knock on wood). Onto the questions:
1. What is the maximum voltage that can pass to the NOAC without a regulator? I've got it powering off of a USB connection (5v 800mA if I know my ports) and I found an AC->DC wall wart in my basement that does 5.1V at 800mA, would this be sufficient without having smoke damage in my room?
2. Does anyone know the specific pinout for the player 2 controller port on the SJ3? The reason I ask is because the light gun doesn't have a purple wire, all I see here is blue, yellow, brown, and red. Brown is confirmed to be ground and red is clock. I really don't want to do process of elimination and say that yellow is really purple because I don't want to fry anything.
3. Anyone have an idea for what I could put in place of the screen? I don't really want to have a window to a bad soldering job.

1. It should be okay.Creebo wrote:1. What is the maximum voltage that can pass to the NOAC without a regulator? 3. A screen would work pretty well.

Re: nesPod (56k beware)
Status: Completed!
Finally after 3-4 months (I don't really know how long, feels like forever) my nesPod is complete! There's not much to say so I'll just give you some pictures.

The guts before gluing.

Top down view. I say that's pretty minimalistic. (Bad Apple joke)

Isometricish view.

External controller port.

Hard-wired, uh, wires... and the on/off switch.

System with the cables, yes it is powered via USB.

Proof that it works.
I'm pretty pleased with it so far, but it needs a couple of tweaks. I still would like to put a decal or something in the little window that says "Nintendo" or something. I also need to get my hands on an actual NES controller and get that connect, along with a Zapper. The plastic part of the shell near the controller port also needs some sanding.
Also, if anybody wants any of these parts, contact me. If I have multiple requests, people who are going to MGC will be the winners (I hate shipping).
- Toshiba 1.8" 20GB Hard Drive (condition is assumed working)
- iPod 4th Gen replacement battery (great condition)
- iPod 4th Gen monochrome screen (great condition)
- Famicom 60 pin slot connector (if anyone from MGC wants this I'll part with it for free)
NOTE: Expect a video very soon!

Re: nesPod (56k beware)
bravo! Although, you might want to put the screen back in to give the illusion that it's an ipod, but when you turn it on, BAM! nes.
rest in peace, Ronnie James Dio! \m/
