I agree. And while 2 AA batteries would last longer, 4 AAA batteries (parallel series of 2 batteries each) would still last quite some time; using rechargeables, if you so choose, should allow you to play for many many hours before needing a recharge.

I just don't want an ugly battery pack sticking of the back.

Ahh the memories.

I finished that project eventually, fried 2 Gameboys in process too! The final product was sold for like $75, so I unfortunately can't take pictures

I would use the SP if at all possible, it was possible in an 83, so in an 84, you'd have plenty of room. All I had to do was relocate the battery, and make button board that lined up with the calculator buttons, the cartridge lined up with the battery bay almost perfectly. It was pretty sweet, I totally should have kept it
