Like the rest of Metallica's albums. This album is crap.

EDIT: Yeah I know this is flamebaiting, but I gave the album a chance and listened through, copulate it.

St. Anger sucked. I am a HUGE Metallica fan, but that album needs destroyed. Death Magnetic has a couple places in a few songs that sound St. Anger-ish, but it is a HUGE step up from St. Anger. It's not as good as their old stuff, but its closer than their last CD. Broken, Beat & Scarred is pretty kick ass (I can already play most of it on my guitar) and so is The Unforgiven III. My Apocalypse sucks....lol probably the worst on the CD in my opinion. I've had the CD for about a week now (ssshh.....) and these songs grow on you. I am a die hard Metallica fan but they do have their share of crappy, horrible songs, not only on this CD (there are only a couple I don't like) but on almost all their CDs. I'm going to a see Metallica in October - Hope they sound as good live this time as they usually do! \m/

I've only been able to call myself an actual "Metallica Fan" for about a year, so I'm definitely not as "cultured" as some of you HCFs out there. BUT, I've been a metal fan for a while, and I'll say that as far as "thrashing metal" goes, this album is in the top 10 at least. In my humble (uncultured) opinion, I think DM it's in the top 3 three, Black Album being first and Master of Puppets being second.

Btw, anybody else that preordered the album get an extra copy for free? My slip says 1 copy both ordered and sent, but I got 2.

St. Anger doesn't suck, the production does, but the album doesn't.. it's something different. Death Magnetic isn't.. it's same old.

The new album has a lot of good songs. Definitely a nod to the Metallica of 20 years ago.

It's too bad they all sound flat due to the terrible compression. This album had potential, but Rick Rubin had to blow it. The loudness war strikes again.

And before anyone asks, yes I did buy it.

Bought the whole album the second I got up this morning!

I love the Day that Never Comes, brings back memories of a similar song structure as One, but sounding like one of the more mellow songs on the Black album. All Nightmare Long has to be the best head-banging song on the album, having one of the catchiest choruses I've heard lately. The Unforgiven 3 is pretty sweet, I like that they made it so different from 1 & 2.

I've been a Metallica fan for about 4 years now, and have similar opinions as many die-hards. ST. Anger was just dreadful, but the albums before were pretty damn good (with the exceptions of Load and ReLoad being mediocre). If you like any type of metal, you will find a song on this album that fits your tastes. It has so many different styles of songs, and apart for thrashy intro riffs, each song is different. I highly recommended it to all hard rock/metal fans.

There's my thoughts. Now, GIVE ME MY PENNY!!

I really enjoyed this Album, oddly enough, It is tied for my favorite Metallica album which is the Black album.

You know why Same=more $ ?

Because people like the same old.

Now the Band that I get really sick of being same old, is Dragonforce, allot of the same guitar riffs over and over, and just recycling lyrics from different songs.

Dragonforce's best songs from their New album would have to be the Japanese Bonus tracks

Got this album on the way home from school, and its amazing

it reminds me of the master of puppets album for some reason. But either way i love this album and Metallica.

I somehow managed to forget this was coming out today until about 4 hours ago. Conveniently I was getting ready for an hour long drive so I swung by Best Buy and picked it up. I wound up having to cruise around for 10-15 minutes after reaching my destination in order to finish up the entire album. LOL

Now I am not the biggest Metallica fan in the world, but I have listened to them for 15 years and bought all of their albums. I must also say that while I think their 80's work is their best, I have enjoyed songs off of every album since (yes, even off of St. Anger)... That said, I was left pleasantly surprised by Death Magnetic.

Is it perfect? No... Is it damn good? Yes. There are some weak spots here and there that mostly seem to do with the vocals. They just seem "off" on a few songs. Otherwise there is a lot to like here. The songs actually build. Something a Metallica song hasn't done since "The Outlaw Torn" (a great, overlooked song of theirs).

My favorite song is "Suicide & Redemption" (the instrumental track). I love instrumental tracks anyway (Orion is my favorite song ever), so I guess I'm not surprised I like the song so much. I had no idea it had an instrumental track when I bought it, but as I was listening to it I thought to myself: "This album could really use an instrumental..." Then track 9 came on. Awesome stuff. I've often wished Metallica would release an all instrumental album. It would be amazing if their past work is any indication.

This album is structured very similarly to And Justice For All. Pretty much all the songs are quite lengthy. There is the next to last track that is an instrumental (Master of Puppets had this as well). Granted on Justice "To Live is to Die" does have some speaking at the end, but for all intents and purposes it is an instrumental. Then there is the up temp song to end the album a la Dyer's Eve. Just something to think about. I think it is pretty obvious that the band made a conscious decision to go back to their roots and, as far as I'm concerned, it worked.

For those scoring at home my top 3 Metallica albums now are...

1. Master of Puppets (one of the best albums ever IMO)
2. And Justice For All (damn close to Puppets for my money)
3. Death Magnetic (might fall once the newness wears off, but I love its epic-ness)

I hate to bump a semi-old thread like this, but I just got around to listening to it all, and I love it.

I can honestly say it's probably my new favorite Metallica album, followed closely by And Justice For All and Master of Puppets. As great as the latter two albums were, there were a very limited amount of songs that I actually enjoyed listening to (probably about half), whereas with Death Magnetic, I enjoy all of them. Sure, there are a few that I play far more often, but it wouldn't kill my soul if I had to listen to a loop in shuffle.

Still havent heard it yet, my metalhead friends say its a step in the right direction though.

Ive been out of the metal loop for a while now, i used to say i liked metal but when it boiled down to it i only really liked Megadeth and early Metallica

I might have to pick up a copy of this to see what all the fuss is about

I decided to download the whole album on Guitar Hero 3, awesome stuff, only song I haven't been able to beat on Expert, ironically is "The Day that never comes" Which I thought would be easy as pie.

The DM album download will also work with GH:World Tour when that comes out.

For a little under $20, that is not a bad deal IMHO.

I will have to say that I am the same as CT, Death Magnetic is my new favorite Metallica album followed close by "Master of Puppets" and "And Justice for all"
