starting 360 laptop

The reason you are having a tough time is because the Xbox 360 does not use leaded solder. Add leaded solder to the joints then attempt to desolder them.

what kind of capacitator, digi-key or mouser might have them, or if your lucky texas instruments

As long as the new capacitor's capacitance (uf) is the same, and the rated voltage is the same or higher than the original, then yes it will work. (Just keep the polarity straight.)

I'll probably get flamed for this, but it sounds like you don't have a lot of experience, so starting with an Xbox 360 might not be the best idea. Have you considered practicing on something less complex?
