Folks, the real thing you need to be looking for in white LEDs is current draw.

A 10,000mcd LED with a very narrow 15 degree viewing angle is going to work poorly for a backlight.

The same LED with a 45 degree viewing angle will be only 3,000mcd. It outputs the same light, but over a wider area. This usually works better for backlights.

That's why you diffuse it.

And anyways, the LEDs I ordered are 13,000 mcd with a 25 degree viewing angle, so that's pretty good.

I'm sure they'll do fine.

New Question: I'm using rechargeable batteries and will be adding a charge jack. If the charger is at the same voltage as the batteries, would it be okay to plug it in and play at the same time? I don't need a switch to disconnect the batteries from the system and to the charger, it's fine to have them all hooked up at the same time, right?
