Second that, Drum machines arent brilliant, but it'll still beef up the sound a lot more and keep you in time better than a metronome.

Anyone running Linux? if so i suggest Hydrogen for a Drum machine, its what i use.
I think there might be a Windows port, i dont know

Yes there is a windows port of hydrogen. I've been fooling around with it for the last to weeks.

Yes there is a windows port of hydrogen. I've been fooling around with it for the last to weeks.

Hydrogens great, except some of the tom sounds are a bit cheesy, but then its never gonna sound perfect

I tried out Umbuntu studio, which has hydrogen. But its largely useless to me.
The Drum machine is the only thing i use it for

A lot of people have problems recording through line-in. Usually it is because of cheap sound cards. I have the same distortion sound problems, but its because of a cheap sound card. The problem goes away when I use a nice sound card, so I would try a nicer sound card if you can get your hands on one.
