GBC screen lighting

Well, I'm going it alone using what I lernt here in this thread. ;P

I pulled the foam away, pulled the metal off, got 5 LEDs from the dollar store (kid's toy, really cheap but great bright LEDs) that are a blueish but that matches my teal gameboy; got speaker wire, a soldering gun, solder, and tomorrow I'm going to search my basement to see if I have a dremel.

Question; how many LEDs can the two batteries power while still powering the game? I intend to only use four out of the five; will this be too many? All five LEDs power up to full brightness when connected to three AG13 button cell batteries.

I'll diffuse the LEDs later. Or should I not do that? Also, to try to 'carry' the light; you know, to have something between the screen and the ribbon cable so the LEDs can light the screen, I'm going to cut a piece of plastic from a CD case cover.

One or two LEDs would probably be plenty, the screen isn't that big (unless your LEDs are really dim). Don't wire them to the GBC at first. Test using an outside power source to make sure it works before you start soldering to the GBC. And for heavens sake, don't use a soldering gun, they get way too hot and generally don't have small enough tips.

For soldering; what should I use? I have a 30-watt soldering iron and rosin flux core solder. Also, since I don't have a dremel, I'll be using.. either an x-acto knife or a chisel to cut out the plastic parts around the screen. Do I just need to cut out the bottom corners?

..Huh. After googling I found there's a difference in soldering irons and guns. I have no clue why I said gun.. but no worries, I've an iron.

I also acquired two new GBCs today, used, from a little store in New Jersey. A yellow one and another teal. I'd like to do a prosound mod on one and overclock the other. Of course, I have no clue what I would need and where to get it (go me! woo! xP) except something about.. crystals for over/underclocking.

Overclocking it will make you able to play a game faster than normal, right?
