Wow, I'm sorry but after all that it's no better now than it was before.
Hopefully it's not the database again. That would mean either the same setup error was made on both servers and/or installations, or somewhere along the line the database contents got corrupted.
It was sort of loading before, when just the main page was up... Oh man I hope the database isn't corrupt. That would SUCK!

This reminds me of a prank that was pulled and went horribly wrong over at MFGG earlier this year. The prank is now called The Great Mistake and you can read all of what happend at MFGG's wiki: http://mfgg.taloncrossing.com/wiki/inde ... at_MistakeElectric Rain wrote:I think so. Everything forum-related reverted back to how it was on April 2nd. I even had to re-change my signature.Life of Brian wrote:What about members who joined in the last week? Did they lose their accounts?
Also, Thanks for getting the site back up Ben

A backup was made immediately prior to attempting to upgrade to phpbb3. For reasons I'm not going to get into, we deemed that one "unreliable" when it came time to go back to phpbb2.Electric Rain wrote:He should have backed up the database as soon as he began trying to install phpBB3, and I'm sure he knows that.
Unfortunately that meant going back to April 2nd which wasn't ideal, but the only real option available to us. As Ben said, it could have been worse.
I have probably poured over 20 hours into working on this site since last Thursday and been in the process of moving to a new place as well over this past weekend. So I'm wound a little tight at the moment...
I don't expect gratitude or anything like that, but at least recognize the fact that the site is being worked on and that the people who run it have lives to live as well.
We are aware of the slowness issues and working on solutions. When we know something, you'll know something.
Thanks.
Awwww man, but I just finished doing all this research on a 1chip snes 60Hz mod and now the user I was going to inform doesn't exist anymore.
I'm rather angry that we lost all those posts (and PMs), I think he should have made a backup before updating (common sense, any one?), but hey. Ben pays for the forums, he pays for the server so I'm glad that he didn't decide to close the forums down because of all the bandwidth it causes.
also, why are the servers slow as hell again?
isn't the PS3 thing over now?

I didn't mean to pick on anyone at all. I know you all have lives, and I'm thankful you're trying to make it better. Rather than waste time griping about something that already happened and can't be changed, people need to get over it and move on.
Thanks Jones, Ben, and everyone else for all your hard work. It is appreciated.

Reverting to April 2 isn't too bad, and it was pretty slow for a while so not a whole lot got lost. (Seriously you guys, we only went back about 2 weeks. It's not that big of a deal.)
Thanks for fixing it!
We're not placing blame (at least, not most of us...), we're wondering why all of a sudden the entire site crashed, and want to help figure out how to fix it. It's the least we could do after this whole server ordeal.
What went wrong with the phpbb 3 upgrade? Was it something to do with updating the database contents? I could grab a backup from the control panel and throw it on a server VM to see if there's something wrong with the content...
If you could give the forum admins an FTP login for the forum subdomain, we could take care of a few miscellaneous things.
(ie: moving the css to an external file to save bandwidth, the additional emoticons people keep nagging about, maybe some graphics tightening...)
Seems like the server is having another burst of speed. We'll have to hang in there and see how long it lasts.

Hey guys, I know what it's like to run a site like this, and I feel your pain. Do whatever you need to do to get it working, and take as long as you need. I'm sure most of us would rather spend a week without the forums and then have them back and fast again than continue with the slow performance.
