What is the size of the DivX video (640x480, 720x480, etc; aka I don't mean file size)?

I think the word you're looking for is "resolution".

I thought the same thing when I got it. It was fine when I just wanted to play it on my computer (DivX Player allows you to change resolution, but not permanently). VirtualDub resizes it to the proper size, but it's a bit choppy at times.

So it's 720x468 with an aspect ratio of 1.85:1? You can change it to 720x480 (which is what you'd want for a DVD) and keep the aspect ratio with AviSynth. Just add the borders and then resize (some math work involved with the borders).

No it's 720x468 with an aspect of 16:9 (I think? W/e it is it's not 1.85:1). I want to change it to 1.85:1

Why? Does it look distorted at 16:9?

1.85:1 is the resolution at which the movie was filmed. Whoever ripped it probably assumed it was 16:9 'cause they're pretty similar, but it's stretched a bit.

If you are doing DivX/XviD to DVD then I generally use VSO Software ConvertXtoDVD. If you are doing DVD9 to DVD5, then I would personally use Cinema Craft Encoder SP with DVD Rebuilder (Google for tutorials about that one).
