If you don't mind graphing stuff yourself, the Python script kicks ASS. With equations anyway. It shouldn't be to hard to figure out the general graphing, right? Unless your teacher wants precision...

I think some Texas Instrument calculators have a USB line so you can put some weird open source stuff on there (like how people put Rockbox on their iPods), and I'm sure you could squeeze Python on one.

just make sure a friend can loan you a real calculator for a test if you decide to just emulate, because no teacher is going to let you have a laptop in front of you during a test.

Personally, I believe a graphing calculator is an important asset to every advanced math student. I use the ti-89, but an 83 is a very useful tool. The emulator does a lot, but the real thing isn't that expensive.
