Dead Malls/Urban Exploration

We have a dead movie theatre by me. Everything is so vintage and rusty..it creeps me out big time

One cool place I've been is an old cement foundry in Coplay, Pennsylvania. This place is seriously one step out of a horror/zombie movie. There's a tunnel with metal spikes coming out, a small house with holes in the ground leading to dark basements, an abandoned warehouse and a giant structure, about seventy feet up. Absolutely freaking amazing for nerfing. It was insane.

We have a dead squirrel with his brains leaking out his ears in the middle of the road out back, very creepy!

Our town's so new that there are no buildings older than 1950 besides some stagecoach, but it's open as a museum now.

We have this place in our town. It's about 10 minutes from my house. Very creepy place.

one mall here in Bakersfield is kinda dead. the three biggest stores is a macy's, game store, and the arcade.

I kinda want to buy the whole mall and make it my house.

This thread inspired me to do some research on the subject and I've just discovered that a mall near me that I've passed by on numerous occasions is a dead mall, and I never even knew. I must visit it!

I hate this topic so much! I have no dead malls near me, the nearest one is in Walla Walla, WA, and I'm in Olympia, WA. It's like 300+ miles, maybe we can stop their on our pay to Spokane to visit our friends sometime...

See, to me, the term "dead mall" just screams indoor mountain bike park.

Think it could ever happen?

ottumwa is an OLD city, founded in 1851 that makes it 156 years old! there are TONS of victorian houses and stuff, its awesome.

where i live was founded in 1180 ! thats pretty old i'd say

Sure, I've seen people do it. In the one by me, people were skateboarding, and after I was done in the game store, me and some friends were doing parkour. It was a damn good time!

There's videos all over YouTube of people doing stuff like this in dead malls, I don't see why you couldn't.

That's why you wear a respirator. It also offers some protection against radon.

Many people make the mistake of using regular painter masks, they might as well be wearing chicken wire on their face.

Other requirements:

A good set of radios for everyone in your party, especially if you split up.

A Maglite and a mini Maglite for a backup, no cheap flashlights, you drop a cheapy one and it breaks you're SOL.

Safety glasses unless you already wear glasses.

A good pair of boots, preferably steel toes with non-slip soles.

The bigger dangers of urban exploration are collapsing floors, walls, ceilings, etc. and running into people you'd rather not run into, that big Maglite can also double as a weapon in a time of need. Addicts and bums can inhabit those buildings or worse.

Obviously, never go alone, 3 person minimum is a good rule.

Above all use your brain, if it's a big enough safety risk don't do it.

In my old elementary school, we have a historic school used in the 1800's. Its quite cool actually, except its gated off now. Me and my friend hopped the fence but none of the doors were unlocked.
