What version of the R4 system files do you have? 1.10 and higher patch the files themselves.

I have 1.11 so I guess that's not the problem. Is there anyway at all to play GBA roms with an R4? Like i I got the ram cartridge would there be a way? Does anyone know of a cool looking SEGA DS case?

there is the EZ-Flash 3in1, and the M3 team will soon release a GBA expansion on their own. EWin made one, too.

the old slot 2 M3 played GBA games perfectly on both gba or nds, just dont get the Pro version, that one is actually gimped.

No, I mean is there any way to boot GBA roms just with an r4 with/without a ram cart?

not with the opera one. But there are some cheap GBA Flash Carts that can be written to from the R4. That's what I showed you.
