Why do cables get tangled so easily?

I have had to deal with my share of cord detangling. My current set-up contains the following: VCR, LD player, DVD recorder, 5.1 reciever, Xbox, PS2, Dreamcast, Wii, N64, NES, Gamecube, video switcher, TV-that-only-accepts-RF-input. Needless-to-say, I have oodles of power, video, and audio cables all tangled together in a big mess. It doesn't help that I don't have enough plugs in my power strip or inputs on my video switcher, so I'm constantly unplugging and plugging stuff in.

Unplug anything you can (or just enough to be able to work with it and keep your stuff organized, then work it one cord at a time, starting with the thinnest (or easiest to mess with). Be careful you don't knock anything over while messing with cables that are plugged into stuff. It is long and tedious work.

you know what I hate about cables?

I sit right next to my PC, the pc is basicially UNDER the upper part of my body, with the mouse, keyboard and screen right in front of me. However, the mouse cable is long which would be a good thing, but I always somehow manage to pull the mouse making it fall of the floor. every single day. I hate it.

Go wireless?
Though, there are still wires from the stand/connector.
A strange fact: My Logitech mouse has three cords, a PS/2 for the mouse, a USB for the keyboard (?) and a power cord...
You only need to have the USB cord plugged in for it to work. It takes power and sends both signals through USB.

why not stick all the wires in a pipe and there you go, no problem?

PS on untangeling, then only surefire way I found it to take everything apart, and then go outside (the sunlight will only burn for about 20 minutes tops) then stretch them out as far as possible and inividually atke time to untangel them
