puting a hd dvd driver in a 360

Aha! So the truth is revealed. Basically Microsoft is just too damn greedy and lazy too put HD-DVD in their 360..

On a side note, how the heck do i make my signature picture larger?

I resized it, but its all pixelated. If you made it, just do it again on a bigger canvas. If you found it, try to find a bigger one, or clean up my resized one.

I did some research, and after finding that HD-DVD is directly backwards compatible to DVD, I decided that the reason you can't play games on the HD-DVD player is that Microsoft doesn't want you to. Thats all there is to it.

Being backwards compatible does NOT mean you get the same performance. The reason you can easily use an HD-DVD drive to watch DVD movies is because it reads the data at a constant rate, and as long as you can read it fast enough to watch the movie, you're fine. Games are different. When you start a new level, the game stores a whole bunch of that info in memory, and has to keep replacing it as you move into different areas. Since the HD-DVD drive has a slower read speed than the DVD drive in the Xbox 360, it means it will take longer to read the data off of the disc and load it into memory, meaning longer load times and more periods of lag in-game as data is being written to memory.

If you've ever heard of things like a 52x CD ROM drive or a 16x DVD drive, this is what I'm referring to.

Well i did it on MS Paint when i was bored because at the time i don't have a scanner. If i did have a scanner i would of just drew that.

What he said. The stock DVD drive can read DVDs faster than the HD-DVD drive can. I believe the internal drive can read DVDs at 12X. The HD-DVD drive doesn't need to, and apparently can't.

I have a CD-RW drive in my computer that reads CDs faster than my DVD-RW drive. It's not that uncommon.

My theory on why it doesn't do games. Think about it xbox 360 = 400 dollar device the hd dvd only 200. Say it played games. you could 'backup" mod it without killing your 360 warrenty wich is frigtning a few people to mod their 360s.

So your saying if it was possible you would be able to play 360 games on a HD-DVD?

No Twisted Warthog, the HD-DVD drive can not read game discs fast enough to play them without lagging at times. While technically it can read the disc, the game experience would not be ideal.

Well ya. But also i'm not sure if usb is fast enough. They need that usb hookup.
