Kyo wrote:I suppose you could build in a hacked USB stick + keyboard, put an autorun on it (with an emulator), and set it to "unwriteable" (some usb sticks have that kind of option)
You would wanna be able to save games though.

That's an excellent point. I guess you'd have to trust the user (being yourself) not to mess with the essential files then...

I am sure there would be some way, maybe two partitions, one locked somehow?

You never know, and nes roms take up nearly no space, so a 128mb sould do fine, or not?

If somone here wrote a nice frontend for me, i would do it! calling all skyones

All of the NES games add up to 229MB, or so says windows. So a 256mb stick would do fine.

Actually, most emulators write to their own folder. Plus a partition would be hard to do, cause it would act as a seperate "drive" (if that's even possible for USB sticks, I don't know), which would make it's letter vary on different computers, eventually, which means that if the emulator has some kind of *.ini file storing the savefile directory, you still couldn't pull it off.

So yeah, we're back to the original problem.

Can't you just make the ROMs and program files that don't need to be written to read-only? Then just don't overwrite anything? No reason you'd need to get into anything if you're just playing 'em.
