Dreamcast laptop: A few questions before I get going...

Includes but not limited to: SNES, Genesis, Sega CD, PlayStation 1, Nintendo 64, Dreamcast, Game Gear and I guess the Virtual Boy.

I know that the way I could do it is with a step up converter. I guess the question I want answered is will a step up converter be adequate in powering the DC? And if so, how much battery life could I expect from it?

To be honest, I don't know what a step-up converter is(I'm french-speaking btw the names are differents in french) but according to the name, I gues it's something that raise the voltage of something (as a battey)

so:

Yeah the dc got a 12v in, but it also got a 5v in and a 3.3v in, so a step-up might be usefull for the 12v but not for the 5 and 3.3, where you'd need regulators, or you could use a 7.2 to 110v step-up and them plug it to the DC psu and cross your fingers but that would be really complicated/stupid for no good reason. Why don't you simply take apart a gamecube PSU or buy a picopsu and plug a 11v+ battery into it, I've heard that the gamecube psu can take many differnet voltages and I tested the picopsu with a 11.1v source.

Well the reason I wanted to use a 7.2V is because I got a super cheap lipoly battery with 5400 mAH off of ebay for 5 bucks. I was hoping I could use that because I'm trying to minimalize cost. I was thinking I should just skip the battery and make it plug in...
