Congrats! Not entirely sure what you would use it for, but that's some neato soldering. Your skills with solder are comparable to that of an artist with paint.

Microcontrollers are all about serial ports. using the awesome programmer on marshalls site (www.retroactive.be), I can program their entire line of chips... with a serial port. which my laptop dosen't have

They also use serial to send/receive data out so I can use my computer to talk to the program on it.
