SNES.

The Genny had some catchy tunes, but then the SNES had Final Fantasy and its amazing music. The SNES also had a much better sound system, a 8-bit wavetable synthesizer, something the Yamaha sound chip in the Genesis could only dream of being.

I say Genesis, SNES had good tunes, but Genesis had this...'feel' to the music. There are the mainstream games that had awesome music and the lesser know ones like M.U.S.H.A., Alisia Dragoon, Beyond Oasis, and Comix Zone. Neo-Geo was more for sound effects like SVC, but was kind of lacking on musical score.

SNES has some great tunes. Super Metroid and Power rangers come to mind.

i vote genesis, it had better sound and better graphics than the snes, and who cares that there were sequals, that just means that those games were popular enough to spawn sequals, blast processing kicked big N's but anyway, so again i say

Neo Geo pwns all.

Of note, both the Neo Geo and the Genesis use a Zilog 80 as a sound co-processor to run a Yamaha synth chip... They even use synth chips in the same series (type) but the Neo Geo one is a few steps above the Genesis.

The SNES had a... dum da dumm!!!! SONY sound processor! Similar to older MIDI Soundblasters.

I shouldn't really vote in this poll because i've never played Neo Geo (played Neo Geo Pocket) or Atari Lynx, but SNES had better music than Genesis, one exception being Streets of Rage but...

The only time I see the Genesis being the best out of all those listed in sound quality was when it had the add-on, Sega CD, or for everyone else the Mega-CD. That add-on gave the Genesis CD quality audio, FMV and a few lame "make your own music video" games.

Neo Geo, never played, so I know nothing of this great audio some of you speak of.

TG-16 was actually 8 bit haha, they used 2 8-bit processors. As for sound, I would have to say SNES by a wide margin. How I figure this was by playing both Mortal Kombat 2 on both systems. Sound capabilities are far superior on the SNES version of this game.

Other games I have noticed on Genesis didn't sound all that great to me either, like on par with the NES.

For those that don't know, http://vgmusic.com/

Proof that SNES reigns supreme.

Megaman:

Earthbound (The most lovable game ever. The goal of this game was for fun, not gaming. Tell me this music isn't fun!)

FF3: (Never played it, but I must admit, the music is very advanced for its time, and its file format:

My dad just took over the sound system, so the rest are by how good I remember them being:

I think SNES games all sound exactly like MIDIs. The Yamaha chips in the Genesis and Neo Geo have a distinctive sound to them, like the Atari Pokey or the 80s Casio keyboards. I dunno, the SNES doesn't have a unique sound to me. (And everything the next generation on had at least nearly-CD quality sound...) There's no "personality" to it, if you get what I mean.
