12 AA rechargeables = 9.6v = not too far over the voltage of the screen. Would it still work though?

Bit to much voltage. You can use an 7808 for the screen.

don't use 8 batteries. Everything will work great with 6-7 and it will take up less space and be lighter

What's a 7808 anyway? Could anyone give me a link to one on the internet? Does it somehow convert the voltage or something?
And how do you wire it? Thanks.

A 7808 looks like a little chip with 3 long contacts. Sometimes referred to as a "linear regulator"

Put a voltage and ground greater than 8 into it and Out comes 8.

It basically converts the extra voltage into thermal energy(heat).

Usually you can find one at your local Radioshack(usa)/Source(canada) in the droors section. It would be in the bin most likely labeled regulators.

The three prongs are as following In Ground Out

. Seriously, the time it takes for the parts to arrive is sooOoOoOo long!

Just a few more questions:

1. Any ideas of how to secure the controller to the plastic case? I'm hoping I don't have to cut anything to get them tom fit together, because the rounded surface of the controller and the flat surface of the case don't go together very well? Any ideas?

2. Are there any tools that can cut hard plastic, besides a dremel? More money to spend. But if I must...

3. I'm going to build a battery charger for it. It's going to use a wall plug (output 12v) and that's going to attach to a headphone plug, which will plug into a headphone outlet, and then that goes to the batteries. Is 12v too high? Too low?

4. Am I starting to seem more like an idiot

I'm going down to Fry's today to buy:

-Heatsinks (do I really need to explain this?)
-7808 (for the screen)
-Different soldering iron tip (the current one is too big)
-Dremel (to cut the case and stuff)
-AC Adapter (for charging)
-Headphone extention cord (that's the plug for charging the N64)
-Toaster (my dad doesn't have one, he uses the oven

)

Until another problem comes up and I have to buy something else I think I'm good for now.

I got everything I still needed at Frys, except for the 7808 (that they didn't have) and the toaster (all the models had 2 spots for toast, not just one long one). Oh well...at least I know radio shack has what I need. I might be going there today, if not today then tomorrow.

I believe you can get 8 volts out of a 7805 with two resistors. It was on bics page.

I just searched the Radio Shack page. They have 7805 and 7812, but not 7808.

Basically you use resistors on a 7805 to get 8 volts out of it.

Just went to Radio Shack. Got the 7805, the 220 ohm resistor and the 470 ohm resistor. I think I'm ready to build. I have a workstation set up so that I can get the project done

I hope the circuit board doesn't fry
