N64 Smaller Controller

Sorry to bring up VERY old topic, but has anyone here actually attempted connecting all the wires directly to the chip just to see if it works? Or if it does work, what problems does it cause (Im sure some problems would arise bypassing all of the components other than the chip)

Yes, I also want to know if it works. It would save a HUGE amount of space inside my case.

There are a few passive components on the board (resistors, capacitor) that may be needed, but I'm almost positive the chip wouldn't even run without the ceramic resonator (small rectangular oscillator).

I actually did this but left the components (smd and such) on there. It worked fine.

So you basically cut off where the buttons are supposed to go and then soldered directly to the chip?

yes, just for example: Cut the C buttons off in one round board, and wire it up to the right spot. Then tie in the grounds. Easy enough...but i have no use for this.

I thought of trying to cut where bens pic shows his cut, but I wasnt sure if he moved/added components or if he just cut then soldered.
