The most impressive behavior I've seen among computer intelligences is the apparent developement of language shown by those reprogrammed robot dogs, in a limited fashion.
On a seperate note, a computer will not need an equivalent processing power to the human brain to be intelligent or self aware. The current problem is that we have no idea what we're doing, and until we do, artificial intelligence will be just beyond our reach.

The thing about electronics not interacting with the human brain. There is a theory that the Human brain is the ultimate plug and play device. Like that person who shoved that luminosity sensor into his brain via a arm nerve. And he can see the words 'light' or 'dark' in his head and has been able to maneuvre around onjects using it while blindfolded. He is going to have a chip implanted in his brain at some point.
Basically unlike us a piece or hardware is useless without binary to run. However, we don't need that. Hell, how do we know how to learn in the first place. Its not like learning is a hard doced part of the brain like breathing etc.

That will never be true because of one reason. There's lots of us. Not everybody fears them. There will never be self-aware computers for one reason. Humans fear that.
I look forwards to consumer cybornetic implants, like electro-sensitive fingers (already done), and robotic eyes (already done, in a limited fashion).
That's what Electro-Magnetic-Pulse are for, killing robots.Nicholai wrote:My theory is, as long as weapons advance and computers are used to control everything, and by the time a sentinent robot becomes available, how many weapons does it have access to? Millions. I'm not saying we're to doomed, but I wouldn't be surprised if we do have to fend off a few robots.
You guys that think there will never be a sentient AI are forgetting what we are. We're humans and as such we do nothing but attempt to build bigger and better. Just the development of of electronic devices over the past 50 years should show that.
I also want to say that when it comes to using a binary computer it's not going to learn or develop like use, simply because it can only recognize and repeat what it learns. If we move to bio-computers or nearlly anything more advanced then silicon that will likely change. Who knows the next great leap in computers could work more like our brain.
Just remember we can't effectively make prediction of the future. People in the '60s thought we'd have colonies on the moon and Mars. We could have a future vastly different then what anyone could image 30 years from now.

just because a computer could use DNA based processing does not mean that it would be like us. It would still only run what it was told to run. SOmeone would need to write an intelligence program for a computer to be able to have intelligence.
Also EMP's only kill hard drives and CRT's. I doubt a evil killing machine would use either.

EMP will kill the robot's hard drive, what else would it use?
EDIT: Forgot to mention, take your hard drive out and put a magnet on your computer. From what you just said, it should be fine!

Actually, without a floppy and a HDD, pretty much, yes is would.
A robot wouldn't use a HDD you idiot! It would use a solid state storage medium! A HDD would be killed from sudden bumps and shocks. Where as with a solid state medium, it could be run down by a truck and just get right on back up, assuming the frame could handle the physical stress of that.

Okay future man, keep telling fortunes, and telling us we're wrong. You are so cool. You're not in the future, and you know nothing of it, yet you know what technology the future will hold! Wow, you've ultimately proved to me what the epitome of idiot is.sam fisher wrote:Actually, without a floppy and a HDD, pretty much, yes is would.

Learn the facts? Hahahah. There are no facts. You just flat out told me what type of components a sentinent robot will use. You sound more like a fortune-teller, than someone informed. As much as I love hearing your stupid predictions, I've got better things to do.sam fisher wrote:Oh, just shut up. If you don't know the facts then dont bother argueing them! Also if the robots had a Magnetic sensitive component, it would no doubt be shielded.
Well its not hard to figure out, most, if not all, of current robots use a solid state medium for data storage...
