Actually, if this is real, it could be proof that God exists (to non-believers)

My bad. a parable was a story that Jesus told to teach a lesson and such.

Noah's arc is from Genesis 6.

So yeah. It's still just a story.
Hey, sup?

Not really... If any non-believers don't believe other God-like things, they won't believe this.

I can't see how. They could only prove that a rather large wooden structure was deposited on a mountain thousands of years ago. At most, that would only prove that some societies in that time frame were capable of building very large wooden structures.

If they found the remains of animals of a large variety, that would only prove that a large wooden structure was built to house several types of animals in the distant past.

If they also found holy writtings, it would only prove that a large wooden structure housing several types of animals was built in the distant past and frequented/managed by a religious person(s).

If they also found a stone tablet with the words "Property of Noah, you know, from the bible?", guess what? -that would only prove that a man named Noah built a large wooden vessel to store several types of animals in the distant past.

See what I mean? You can never difinitively prove that a god exists. The second you take that 'leap of faith' you are so inclined to take, it is no longer proof.

just a bit of random trivia: huon pine (now native to tasmania, a small island state of australia) has been found at the bottom of rivers in PERFECT condition following dating it appears to have been there for 3000 years. huon pine has an oil that makes it impervious to rot and insects meaning it lasts a very very long time. so if it was made of huon pine it could very well still be around

Kurt's got it right...it's a story! Not everything in the Bible is literal...those who take it that way are concentrating on the wrong stuff (or, in essence, just looking at certain things wrong). There may or may not have been a huge flood and an ark, but that's not the point of the story. It's to teach something about life. As is the creation account, so Creationists are also wrong.
Without games my life would have no meaning.
Well, I guess it would, but it would be a lot less fun!!!!!!!

Gamelver and Kurt_ are both correct. Anyway, I find it hard to believe that anyone could prove that a preserved ship was Noah's Arc. Even if you could test the wood for the date of the ship and it was from a time period around when the massive flood happened, then you still know nothing. This kind of thing cannot be proved or disproved. I could say I found the remains of Leif Ericson's boat that he traveled to America in. If it's from the right time period and built in the correct way, then it's impossible to say whether or not its his ship. Like others have said, this will be considered Noah's Arc until another big old ship is found in some remote Middle Eastern desert (hey, maybe some archeologists will find Osama while looking for the Arc :D ).
(Gamelver, where is your avatar :?: )
It's not about quantity, but rather quality

I heard about this on Paul Harvey News this morning.
But to clear some things up, they did not find the whole ship... they found what could be traces of the remains of the outline of it. And according to the bible, the ark came to rest on a mountain, and the flood waters went down. It never rested at the bottom of any water body.

"Paul Harvey news... Good Day!"

EDIT: and harshboy, is that your phone number in your sig?

Guys first off the idea that the Ark was the size of an air-craft carrier is a gross exagerasion. The dementions of the ship don't put it that large. Second, the consept of construting such a craft is not out of the question, it's possible.

Also for those of you that make the comment that the world flooded and that you really believe the whole world flooded, think of that for just a second longer. about 6000 b.c. the world was a lot bigger. A regional flood like even the Mississippi would seem biblical. Also they've show from core sample in the region that a massive flood did happen in the general area that Noah's Ark takes place. A level of sedement about 18" thick.

Also for where the Ark is believed to be I'm suprised that an artical was released. Because to my knowledge Turkey wasn't letting any other expedision go up the mountain. And the reason I mentioned earth.google was the simple fact that it's data is from the scan that NASA did of the Earth and so there should be desent (to a few tens of meters) resolution for anything you zoom in on around the world.

Kurt_ wrote:Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't Noah's Arc simply a parable? It's a story telling us to be good or God will smite us, it's not something taht actually happened.
OK first off Parables where told by Jesus correct? Noah's ark was a true story that happend about... hmmm... lets say... 6000 years before Jesus! secondly I don't believe that is noah's ark because I believe that if God wanted us to find it, it would be in perfect condition (if we even find it at all). If it already isn't destroyed then I believe it would be petrifyied (bad spelling) and made into rock to perserve. Thirdly the bible say's it happend and I will believe it and it is your choice not to if you don't want to! and finaly the bible say's it took noah over 100 years to make it for those people who believe it couldn't be done. Look at the pyrimids! Some of them were made thousands of years ago! They didn't have mechanical equimpment. They had man power! I believe it could happen and it did happen. There is only one problem. Like everyone else said if you try and prove it to the world you will FAIL. God doesn't want us to believe in him cause we found proof. He want's us to believe cause we believe! I said my part!

It can not be stated with any certainty that Noah's Ark was a true story. You can only state with certainty that the story itself exists.

A pyramid was a very simple object when compared to a water-faring vessel. The pyramid is essential a big rock, even though it was built from many smaller peices. Furthermore, the pyramids are mostly solid. A water craft made of wood similar to Noah's Ark would need to have a relatively complex internal structure to keep such an open space intact, using various arrangements of support beams and struts. Unless you believe in Atlantis, such technology and knowledge hadn't likely been developed yet.

The sky is still blue, and all this extra water mysteriously vanished.
First off, to the Isrealites in that time, the area of and around the middle east was all they knew, it was their "earth". Easily could have been just that area in which the said heavy rainfall occured.

Second, I believe you're referring to the firmament that Genesis 1:6-8 records being created. It is infact described in just about every version of the Bible (only called a firmament in KJV AFAIK), and none of them claim that it was what caused the sky to be blue (and if it does, that is one seriously screwed up translation).

Don't twist the Bible for your bashing needs.

Man you're stupid. where do you think that we got oil from? Freaking massive amounts of dead animals in concentrated areas of the earth when the flood happened, which rappidly compressed millions of carcases under massive preasure of millions of tons of water. I know that the flood is true, because almost eery culture has an account of a flood. You know where every culture came from? The descendents of Noah's sons and their wives. What the heck? creation isn't true??? Holy crap how'd we get here??? don't even try to pull some evolution crap on me because I will eat you alive if you do.

So the entire human race, and every other species on earth for that matter, is inbred?
