"worst episode ever"
Seriously, the N64 RAM expander, Sega 32x, PS2 broadband adapter, XBOX DVD kit, Sega CD, and Jag CD were all bad enough, now something with multiple things I have to upgrade!?!?
This just has "bad idea" written all over it, unless it truly is just a PC with the brand name on it, it will never compete with custom built gaming PC's because of cost cuts, and the compatibility issues will kill it as a game console.
I mean the price looked like it would shoot them in the foot, now it looks like they dropped a stick of TNT on the other foot and pushed the plunger!
PS3 is an upgradable PC !

it's just kin kutagari running his mouth about stuff that he made up. notice that the whole time that he was talking that he kept saying, "maybe this is a joke" or "why not I see no reason." none of this has been confermed it is just kin kutagari trying to stress the point that it is more than just a game console, it is a media hub. the only upgrades that I can see are the harddrive and hi def options. no real hardware changes that would require you to upgrade before you can play new games. Think about it this is all figurative, it is just sony trying to make everybody know that it is more.
Now how useful it will be as a computer we will just have to see. I will not be using it as a pc myself I will game on it. it doesn't bother me however, that sony decided to put linux on it, heck if the RSX is as powerful as it looks, I might just get cedega and start playing F.E.A.R. on it too.
Oh and what's with everybody saying it is $600, did I miss something, because the last time I checked, the base system was $500. the base system is what most people will most likely get. Plus I will be getting mine from Japan because they are region free and I have a friend in japan who can get it for me. they are going to be $450 over there.

If I were going to spend more on a console than my car, I'm going to make sure it will work to the best of it's ability with every television I purchase in the next (at least) ten to fifteen years. The "cheaper" system comes with no HDMI, which isn't that big of a deal today, but will be limiting in say 2010 or so. Who said it was going to be $450 in Japan? You do realize that a large box shipped internationally from Japan by EMS or UPS will cost over $50, right?XPCportables wrote:

EDIT: snipped from somewhere: In Japan, the base model costs 62,790 yen. A currency convertor comes up with this figure at today's exchange rate of 113.956 yen to the dollar (usually fluctuates between low 100's to high in 120's, so this is pretty close to average):
62,790.00 JPY = 551.000 USD
Japan Yen ......... US Dollars
