The PSOne screen requires between 7 and 9 volts to run, so anything between there should work. The N64 has two power lines, one at 3.3 volts and the other anywhere from 7-35 volts to power the audio amp and video, I believe. Generally, 7.2 volt batteries are used and one of the lines going to the N64 is stepped down to 3.3 volts using a DC-DC converter.

Also, the N64 can go as low as 5.5v if you're damned lucky. I've ran mine down to 6v.
Mmk, I understand about the 3.3v regulator ( I already have the parts, yay for texas instruments
) and I have seen skyones diagram. So since Im running two 9.6v batteries, I should be fine to power everything with the three splitting off lines like in my picture? Ill have the regulator on one, the other to the n64, and the other to the screen? The 9.6 wont fry the screen, right?
I guess that seems logical; every game console designer is always trying to keep on the edge of technology. Even in the 90's, with the N64 and Playstation both on the market, N64 dominated graphics and PS1 dominated sound and "cutscene-ability" (real video).usbcd36 wrote:A guy I know told me the story about the N64's GPU…
The people who created the computers that rendered the dinosaurs in Jurassic Park went back to those machines, and found that they could condense them into single chips. These chips ran pretty hot, weren't nearly as powerful in real time, and were somewhat impractical for use as video cards (though I believe some cards WERE made). Few months later, Nintendo comes along, ready to build a new console, and they've got this chip there, so Nintendo buys it up and starts working on the N64 (naturally they modify it some to do what they want). It made a fairly nice GPU, but it still took a lot of power…
However, i don't think the chips were a direct alteration of the Jurassic Park chips; i know they were altered for gaming purposes, but obviously there wasn't any game that came close to the graphics in Jurassic Park. I think they were mearly a few hundred steps down from those specialized chips because back then, gaming manufacturers didn't know how to handle that kind of graphics power.
N64 was more advanced than the PSone though. While the PS1 had more diversity in sound and video capibility, the N64 had real-time shadowing, texture reformating, and a very primitive physics engine. PSone lacked all of these.

anyway the PS2 is lesser than the dreamcast and the xbox and the gamecube
and the SNES and Genesis were nothing for the Neo-Geo AES
But cost, popularity, and number of titles are very important factors in a new console

My thing is, I already have the two batteries.. would it be easier to just buy new ones or to put together something to bring the voltage down for the screen? Maybe a resistor?
