Oh you can just go to hell...I am done with you hypocritical, whiney, immature, smart-mouthed newbies that think they know the intra-web like their hand knows how to emulate...get out now.

people really need to cut down on the googlable that's the best sounding word i've ever heard... and random spammy threads. of course part of it is the amount of members: there were less than 600 when i joined but now there's way more than 1337. noobs just post too much

I think this should be a sticky! Its worth being a sticky because this is a holiday and stickies are for important things. Every April 20th we should celebrate how much crap we post! But we should also learn from this too. We shouldnt post as much crap as we do. We should all make a vowe (I think thats how you spell it.) "I vowe from this moment on I will not post about random crazy german kids and when I have a question, I will look at google for my answers and if there is no answers, I will try to make the question as meaningful as possible."

Well, as much as I hate spam, maybe this would be a good idea; this could be the universal spam sticky. Maybe that way we can confine the spam to one area and have USEFUL stuff on the actual forum. That way we could lock any other thread that gets spammy IMMEDIATELY! Also, I think that the whole rhubarb thing needs to be taken out of the description of F42....people are abusing the privilage. And to Luc, keep up the good work! You keep our forums nice and dandy, kinda like an air freshener! okay, maybe not the best comparison, but it works.

Yay - I get to pat myself on the back. I've been a member for a while and the first time I ever posted a thread in Forum 42 was last week! Go me! :P And it was for a real question regarding your honest opinion! BTW, I'm going to have an update about the arcade machine thing soon...

We're trying to discourage spamming altogether, we're not trying to seperate it.

What people need to learn is that the forums are not places to jot down every thought that crosses your mind. It seems like people are posting more and more irrelevant crap every day, and it's not funny in the least. Forums are places to get your questions answered and have conversations on relavent topics. A blog is a place to write down everything you think of while you're a convenient distance from your computer.

In short, we don't care what your cat yaked up this morning. We want to have coherent discussion here, not a bunch of random, irrelevant nonsense.

Try this if you get the sudden urge to post something random. Type it into Notepad (Simpletext, Kwrite, whatever), minimize the window and leave it for 10 minutes or so. Come back to it and if you still think it really needs to be posted, post. If it doesn't need to be posted here, close the window, don't save changes, and get on with your life. This will save yourself some flaming, and we won't have multiple moderators clicking the LOCK button simultaneously.

I think Fourm 42 has become a dumpster of a forum, where people come to post their random nonsense where the entire workd has the opportunity to respond. And that's just pitiful! I, like Luc, am only looking now because I'm a mod here! There's almost nothing non-spammy on the front page! It's absolutely ridiculous!

in response to some previous post(s):
It's not so much that everything is spam (I was exaggerating, obviously) but a lot of the posts and threads are just like chat rooms over an extended period of time. I made this thread simply because it shows we've reached an important point in benheck history. I counted, and there are about 50 threads per page of F42....times 100...that equals 5000 threads in ONE forum. Most of which has been posted recently. I mean, I can't force anyone to quit posting useless threads, but do we all really have to post every little thing that pops into our head? First, do research on Google. Search around the different results, and try different search terms (google still ain't perfect, ya know). Next, see if this topic hasn't already been discussed. As bic said, just try and post something that's important and can contribute to the forum.

Really, though, this is just something that annoys me, spammy threads. I mean, I understand that when anything (almost...) is open for discussion, it turns out people will, undoubtedly, post anything :P.
Without games my life would have no meaning.
Well, I guess it would, but it would be a lot less fun!!!!!!!

Very true, bicostp. I only stated that because I am realistic; we can't defeat spam without bots for mods, and I really would hate to put you guys out of a job. I for one, have no problem with obliterating F42. However, I think if it served it's TRUE purpose, then it would be quite the resource. "What is the true purpose?" some spammers may ask. It is my strong opinion that F42 was created to serve the ELECTRONIC needs of hackers, having things to do with games/emulators/handhelds, stuff that has no other thread to call home. The occasional off-topic post would be okay, as long as it serves a purpose. However, I agree.

We're not going to obliterate it completely, we'd just crack down on the "no spamming" and "no blogging here" rules. Off-topic discussion is OK as long as it's DISCUSSION, not mindless yammering.

ok, here's an idea.
you could set up a off-topic discussion forum
i've seen it on a different forum. in fact, it even went to other sub-forums such as religion, media (movies, tv, etc.), and even senseless banter.
